I recently changed the rear parking break pads on both rear wheels on my Gen2 Prius, think it is a 2006 model, registered in 2007.

And after the change, the rear wheels make a thumping noise each turn.

The noise is barely noticeable when first starting to drive, but gets louder after a while.
Its a loud thumping at slow speeds, low at average city driving speeds.
The noise goes away when lightly pushing the parking brake pedal while driving.
There is no noise when reversing.

Any clues to what I have done wrong,
Everything seems to be in the correct place

    Thanks John I.

Do you have disks or drums in the rear?

In Norway, it might have both, top-hat style.

Yes or no: if he has drums it's not my favourite bug bear, and if it's disks, there is another style of rear disc brakes, with a mini-drum brake (per the US v), so not really sure. Third gen rear (disk) brakes are problematic, especially to the uninitiated DIY'r..., like myself.

In English we'd call those "drum" brakes. I've attached the (North American spec) 2nd gen Repair Manual section on brakes.

Not sure regarding the sound. You reinstalled the brake shoe hold down clips; the shoes are held tightly against the backing plate?
