ChaoJi is a collaborative higher speed EV charging standard between GB/T(China) and CHAdeMO. Sounds like it is one plug using two different protocols for the separate markets; CHAdeMO 3.x outside China. It will be backwards compatible with GB/T and CHAdeMO, though I expect that needs an adapter. Might also work with CCS. Still a separate plug like CHAdeMO, but one designed to not take up as much space. It fits under the the AC plug; where the DC pins are on a CCS plug.

350kW will be possible, and 1.2 megawatt charging will be part of the standard.

China recently gave the okay to use it there, and the CHAdeMO side started testing in Japan a couple months ago. That was delayed by the pandemic.

The timing and of the agreement and development is why I'm thinking Toyota dropped DC charging from the Rav4 and new Prius PHV in Japan. I don't think the EV charging situation has changed there enough to make DC charging unneeded. With no more delays to ChaoJi, I expect the next Rav4 PHV to get it, and the Prius PHV might with the midcycle refresh.

I think the plug with 2 extra pins like CCS is the megawatt, Ultra-ChaoJi one.

Seems to not be in agreement with the articles with some info. Perhaps simply out of date.
