My Prius came with Chrome wheels and I live at the beach. What precautions should I take to prevent corrosion?

The Prius comes with Aluminum wheels and plastic trim rings. They won't corrode, you don't need to do anything. If they really are chrome then they are aftermarket. Chrome is corrosion prevention in itself until the chrome cracks, pits or degrades. You could put a clear coat of paint on them but it won't be as shiny.

    Wax them, at least weekly.

Try to find wax specifically made for wheels (don't have names offhand, but it's out there), as the wheels have the possibility of getting hotter than the body due to brakes. Not *that* likely with the Prius, but if you can find the higher temp stuff, it would be better. 100% carnauba wax would probably work fine, but the 100% stuff is expensive . Then again, if you only use it on the wheels, one can/tube/bottle should last years.

I don't think you'll have much problem with rust on chrome plated aluminum. I would think a sealant rather than a wax might hold up longer and not melt off. I use a product call Maas on my stainless prop on my boat and chrome shower and kitchen faucets, it seems to hold up pretty well. Also Flitz works well and leaves some protection. Maybe Zaino would work better than wax and you could spray them with the detailing spray (Z6) after you wash the car.

And hey the chrome wheels look good on the black car; keep them clean and wax them monthly and they will be fine.
