It's nice to know that an American automaker is number one is something anyway  I've always said that Chrysler makes some very sexy, very attractive deathtraps and they're certainly living up to that moniker.

but they just got a jd power award for the best minivan! i know because im sick of the commercial on tv.

...why would such a "good" company have such a bad record of recalls...

hmm..... sounds like some engineers need to be fired...

I wouldn't gloat that much, considering Toyota is chomping at Chrysler's heels in an effort to be #1 in recalls.

actually it looks like ford and gm are the ones chomping at chrysler's heels. followed by honda, nissan, vw, then toyota.

In 2003, the Toyota recalled 200k American vehicles. In 2004, the number increased fivefold, to a little over one million vehicles. In the following year, the number leaped again, more than doubling to 2.2 million. So far this year, Toyota has announced five recalls affecting approximately 900K vehicles.

Give them time... they like to do their 'big numbers' in the fall.. :)

The good news is they're planning on producing more... SUVs?

Well, so far Toyota is leading on the "Execs going to be doing jail time for hiding serious safety defects that have caused injuries" by roughly 5 execs to 0.

They'll also probably be ahead on lawsuit payouts for the same reasons sometime next year.

heh, well you're just a happy fella, aren't ya? :) For a Prius owner, you sure seem to have a lot of attitude towards Toyota. You ARE a Prius owner right?

I thought this thread was titled something about who has had the most recalls in 2006 and that's what we were 'discussing'? Ah, here it is:
" Chrysler is automaker with the most recalls in 2006, record 16 recalls affecting 1,800,000 cars and trucks"

To me that seems like making fun of a hated neighbor whose house just burned down, while ignoring the fact that your own roof is on fire.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(JackDodge @ Aug 22 2006, 11:05 AM) </div>
I own a Prius, I just think there is a lot of room for improvement, especially in the quality department. Or maybe I just became bitter after the second "dead on the road" incident. Or maybe it was when the center console started coming apart (again). Or maybe it could be all the squeaks and rattles.

Like I said, I do not understand making fun of other manufacturers when the one you are championing has serious problems(self admitted, to boot) of their own.

I'd add that the neighbor is also a total jerk who is a bad loser as well as a bad winner, totally convinced of his own superiority while he flicks his cigarette butts at you out of casual spite. That his house burns down because he flicked one of his butts in to his own house by mistake makes it difficult to feel sorry for him. You may have to live in the so-called motor city to appreciate that one.

Perhaps you have bad karma with Toyotas. I've always had bad karma with GM vehicles; they come across as pieces of junk that have parts popping off of them or failing. I always hear GM drivers around this area saying that they've driven their perfect GM vehicles for hundreds of thousands of miles and never had to do anything but get an oil change now and then but I never get one of those cars. A constant reminder that being the son of a GM engineer doesn't seem to count for anything. Toyota, on the other hand, is one that I have great karma with; never any problems or defects.

I'm now 100% convinced you don't own the car.

Good... come get it then and leave 26K in cash in it's place.

Actually, I regret saying that. It just amazes me that either you have to love the car, otherwise you're a troll who can't possibly own it. Is it so hard to understand or accept that someone could own the car and be underwhelmed by the quality? Is it so hard to accept that the stalling thing could have left someone somewhat upset? Maybe you need to gain some perspective.

No one's ever accused you of being a troll. Grumpy Prius owners are fairly rare so it's surprising but I'm just happy as a clam that I don't suffer from bad Toyota karma too, otherwise, I'd have a complex by now.

'04, Package #9.

I had one of the very first 04s, which is probably why I had so many issues.

Since the car has been causing you so many problems and headaches, I was wondering if you ever tried putting it up for sale? I'm sure there would be plenty of interest generated by an ad in Autotrader, Cars.com, on Craigslist, or even here in the Private Sales forum. Then you could use the $ you get for said headache and buy something that will give you less trouble and less reason to constantly complain.

See, the thing is, I don't really complain unless I see blatant fanboyism or fud. :)

For what it is (a commuting econobox) the Prius is OK. I just don't see how people can laugh and make fun of Chrysler, GM, Nissan, etc... while Toyota is putting out recall after recall.
