Well some of them are pilots ... never fly with them in charge.

Air bags in a plane crash? For what? So your face looks pretty in an open casket funeral?

Some manufacturers incorporate balistic parachutes that allow the whole plane to land much more gently. Problem is -
Too low when it's fired off? You still die.
Too fast a speed when it's fired off? You still die.

I think the real problem might be the cost. Too low or too fast doesn't matter when there is no chute.

On Cirrus - the plane that originally had them installed - it's not an optional feature. iirc many Pilots that weigh in on its use / safety will say exceptional pilot training skills can achieve equal results - surviving in bad situations. Cirrus requires training in chute operation - & followup training as well. Not everybody does follow up. I recall reading more than one Cirrus owner has ballistically launched the chute while just sitting on the tarmac. Others crashed w/out ever utilizing. Others have issues with situational awareness despite training.
