Do you agree with the idea of charging a fee to use express lanes on some highways?

Why wouldn't you give preference to energy efficient modes of transportation instead of to the highest bidder? And at what price do you set the bar - obviously it gives advantage to the RICH and discriminates against the POOR. I am a little surprised here by you on this question :D

Only if there was no speed limit and no traffic to slow me down... :D

There is some discussion of doing this on the Long Island Expressway. Since our Prius already goes in the HOV lane for free, this would not be a good thing. Also, although congested, it is not that bad; you get stop and go but it alternates with sections at full speed. I think we are taxed enough as it is. Another tax would be just too much.

Does anyone live in an area where they have congestion pricing?

Raising gas to $10/gal would negate the necessity of this action.

If neo-cons don't exist to be the butt of jokes, I don't see the point of them. :)

Anybody who commutes from New Jersey to NYC lives in an area where there is congestion pricing. All bridges/tunnels to Manhattan from New Jersey.
    PASSENGER VEHICLE TOLL RATES
    EZ-pass EZ-pass
    Off-Peak Peak CASH
    Hours Hours All Hours
    AUTOS $4.00 $5.00 $6.00
    MOTORCYCLES $3.00 $4.00 $5.00

Doesn't seem to help much, traffic during peak times is still outrageous. Too many cars for too few roads driven by expletive deleted drivers with bad attitudes. Of course if you want to see real "congestion based pricing" just try finding a place to park in the Broadway theatre district

Also of note to those outside the area is that the toll is one-way. You pay to get into Manhattan, but leaving Manhattan to get to New Jersey is free.

There is also a car pool toll of only $1.00, for three or more passengers, AUTOS and MOTORCYCLES only. Somehow, three passengers on a motorcycle immediately made me think of M.S.

Minneapolis has a section of HOV lanes where you can pay a fee and take single occupant vehicles on them. As a result, the HOV lanes are now clogged with yuppies in SUV's (one per SUV of course).

Of course there is a positive side of it, it keeps a large portion of the cell phone yapping croud in their own turf. :p
