Costco Tires?

    I was just over at Costco the salesman told me he would not put 195/60r15 or 195/65R15 on my car but would only do 185/65R15 or 205/65R15 does this sound right? I read here a lot of people with the 195 size.

    Any thoughts?

    I don't know what he's talking about I have Goodyear TT 195/60-15 with no problems. In fact this is the size every where else except the USA.
    So ask them nicely to put on that size, if not go to another Costco.

    No, this doesn't sound right, but everybody gets to have an opinion. Personally I would not do 205/15's but I'm sure there are plenty of folks happy with them.

    That is correct. Costco has an issue with Liability. Costco will install only the same tires which
    corresponds with the originals. No oversizes, no fat tires, no lo profiles. Altho' I do not understand
    the 205/65R15? The Touring Prius OEM is a 16" wheel, so that part does not sound right.l

    Size up by 1 is roughly: +10/-5/same-R (generally speaking)
    185/65R15 -> 195/60R15
    By doing so, there would be minor change in overall diameter by a fraction of an inch.
    You can research tire sizes at tirerack.com.
    Even at the same spec, say, 195/60R15, tires from different vendors may differ in diameter slightly.

    I don't know about the new Costco policy (if it really is?!), when I up-sized the tires on my '01 Odyssey,
    my nearby Costco never even questioned me. I guess it depends.

    Remember, sizing up tires worsens MPG, but improves emergency braking and lateral handling.
    It is a trade-off you have to make.

    We did a little price checking at our Costco, and the guy there told me that the new tire size has to be within 3% of the original tire size, for their liability/road handling warranty.

    So, the original is 185/65, and the 195/60 is something like 1.3% different, so there is no problem going with those. I would guess that if you know enough about tire math, you could figure out what tire sizes they will do, and which they won't.
