    :eek::eek::eek:

A front end loader suddenly stops and starts backing up.

I wont have my car back for 10 days at least. This has got to be some sort of record for fastest to the body shop.

    what...the...

interesting but I guess I wasn't at the scene. The way you describe it has my head scratching.

Anyway, luckily there doesn't appear to be too much damage.

I'll understand if you don't want to talk about it, but

I shall explain. I was returning my old plates to the DMV. On that street there is a firehouse and a police station. A NYC department of sanatation front end loader was clearing the street and the street was supposed to be closed. I turned down the street and the front end loader driver is doing his thing and backs up into my car.

The funny part is that the truck stopped, started reversing and I was reversing away from him, but looking over my shoulder. Next thing I know, I feel a bump and the truck is on my hood.

Maybe he thought you were a big pile of snow, since the car is white lol. In all seriousness though, glad no one was hurt. It is a real bummer, and I would have to say that you may have set a record for quickest trip to the body shop!

I'm just curious, if the road was supposed to be closed, was it marked at all?

Not a single marker or person. I was well down the street when the accident happened.

Any time I have ever seen one of those giant front end loaders clear snow, the road has been closed and there was a second person making sure he doesn't run over a pedestrian.

As for me, I feel sick to my stomach. I feel absolutley disgusting.

In the first two weeks of owning our 2010, a shopping cart kissed the side of the car, leaving a dent and a couple of days later, we had a flat tire. The dent was removed at the dealership by a traveling dent removal expert and the piece of metal in the tire was removed. :( The dent removal only cost $50 as it was popped out with no re-painting.

I assume an accident report was done and they were at fault?

The day after I picked up ours, my jack handle slipped out of the jack and bounced off one of my doors. It peeled off the clear coat but you can't see it unless you know where it was. White is great.

    Sorry about the booboo.

NY is a no fault state. That said, my adjuster assured me that they will sue the city and get back my deductable and my rental price in about 3 months. I'm sure my insurance carrier will even recoup the cost of the repairs and still jack up my premium.

    I hate insurance companies.

    Hi Wiserone,

Its a shame that this had to happen on your first day with the Prius. In a few weeks, you may have had the transmission shifting reflexes to avoid getting hit. The second generation Prius, especially, with the shifter next to the steering wheel can be more quickly put into reverse than any other car. The third generation car, is nearly as quick, I imagine. Just a flick of the rist and stab at the accelerator, and your going backward in less than a second. I have had tractor trailer rigs start reversing towards me and done the quick reverse on two occaisions, with no accident.

Sorry about the Day 1 collision. I believe the record is totalling the car leaving (or close) to the dealer's lot. The insurance company won't increase your premium.
