    In the first laps that matter it appears the Camry will have a learning curve. No Camrys have qualified by way of speed qualifying, the fastest Camry was 25th fastest. As of now no Camrys are in the Daytona 500. They will have to qualify in the twin 125 qualifying races on Thursday. There are 6 or 7 Camrys trying to make it.

    Anybody care? Anybody think anything learned at the track will make it to the '09 Prius? Has anybody ever wanted a Camry SS?

    The learning curve is to be expected. There are some good teams running Camrys and I think they'll get up the steepest part of the curve pretty quickly.

    I believe lessons learned at the track are constantly being used in production cars, tires, brakes, lubricants, etc. I don't know that you'll be able to pinpoint something specific that makes it to the 09 Prius, though.

    Crashin' Camrys doesn't quite have the ring of Bitchin' Camaro, a most enjoyable song by America's most overlooked bands, The Dead Milkmen

    BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
    I ran over my neighbors
    BITCHIN CAMARAO, BITCHIN CAMARO
    Now it's in all the papers.
    My folks bought me a BITCHIN CAMARO with no insurance to match;
    So if you happen to run me down, please don't leave a scratch.
    I ran over some old lady one night at the county fair;
    And I didn't get arrested, because my dad's the mayor.
    BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
    Doughnuts on your lawn
    BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
    Tony Orlando and Dawn

    When I drive past the kids, they all spit and cuss,
    Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO and they have to ride the bus.
    So you'd better get out of my way, when I run through your yard;
    Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO;
    And an Exxon credit card.
    BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
    Hey, man where ya headed?
    BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
    I drive on unleaded.

    So you're saying we won't have a RWD 358 cu in V8 Camry in '09? Darn, I was looking forward to that.

    No. I think nothing is learned from NASCAR.

    The rules are unclear and inconsistent. There is rabid cheating.

    It's not a sport.

    It's purely for marketing purposes. It's another way of advertising to sell a car. Car manufacturers don't need NASCAR to test, improve or make any decisions about what will or will not be in a car.

    And it's stupid.

    Since I live in the heart of NASCAR country I have to defend it.

    From the Ford Motor Company:

    From Goodyear:

    I'm sure I could find more quotes from manufacturers if I spent more time on it. But maybe they're all lying for the sake of "marketing". So how about this? NASCAR technology used to save the Army millions:

    Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.
