"MUSCAT, Oman - Cyclone Gonu battered Oman's coast Wednesday with fierce winds and torrential rains, forcing thousands from their homes and shutting down oil installations before heading toward the world's most important crude oil tanker route."

"The storm, a rarity in the Middle East, was expected to make landfall on the southeastern Iranian coast late Thursday, according to the U.S. military's Joint Typhoon Warning Center. But it was likely to spare Iran's offshore oil installations that lie more than 120 miles to the west."

"...believed to be the strongest cyclone to threaten the Arabian Peninsula since record-keeping started in 1945."

For a second, I thought this topic was referring to the Syclone...that GM supercharged V-6 sport utility from a while back...and a plan to mobilize all of Iraq (and save GM in the process) by reusing all that old tooling to produce obsolete vehicles...

I'd really like a '58 Cadillac ElDorado, with the brushed stainless steel roof and air suspension.

Yes, but the location of the storm is certainly ominous and temporarily halted the oil through the gulf. Another 120 miles and the storm would have devasted Iran's offshore oil installations. There have been articles recently on Middle East countries themselves experimenting with EVs and alternative fuels.
