Daily Ride and the Radio

    I recently have been doing an afternoon shift for work the past few weeks.

    I've gotten used to the routine now, but I cannot get used to the radio programming. I don't have XM and am limited to the stations I get. If I listen to Mark Levine, John Savage, Rush Limbaugh or Bill OReilly one more time, I will die an early death from toxic exposure to them.
    I can't take all the anger and hatred that spews out of these guys. I'm not even talking about their political stance, it's how they deliver it. I realize it is to get rating numbers, but it is soul robbing to listen for even a short time. Does anyone listen to them on a daily basis? I get my news online and from newspapers, I don't need to be guided in my interpretation of world events by these guys and am very scared that are people that rely on them for just that.

    Books on CD and music from here on out.

    Another alternative is to listen to podcasted radio programs. I download the podcasts of This American Life, Fresh Air, Car Talk, and Democracy Now!. I can then listen to them on my iPod in the car or wherever. (I think these programs can be listened to on any MP3 player, but since I have an iPod, I am not sure.) They are all free.

    Or, if you'd like a bit of education in your spare time, there's always The Teaching Company (www.teach12.com)
