    Folks,

    I will be installing a small dash camera right in front of the mirror in my 2005.
    Since the cam has auto-on, I need a 12v wire that is on when the engine is on, or even engine on AND accessory (radio) on.

    Is there a source available in the overhead console?
    Failing that, is there a convenient source in the dash, which will require a wire run up one of the A pillars and over to the overhead console?
    Has anyone installed a mirror mount dash cam?

    Thanks,

    IIRC, the 12v power sockets are only live with the ready or acc mode on, you could feed off the back of there.

    No need for it. Since it's auto start, the moment the car is in ACC mode, it will turn on the cam already. Just buy a multiple socket and plug it in the center console. Plug it in one of the sockets. Work backwards - mount the cam first then plug the power cable into the cam, then run it through the rear view mirror, through the sunshade, to the top of the A-pillar, across, then down the B-pillar, then either on the floor round the seat, or on the seat just behind your bum, then through to the center console. I have one cam for the front and one for the back.

    which dashcam are you thinking of purchasing?

    If your car has the Photochromic/Homelink Mirror, there should be power close.

    My favorite;

    There are enough gaps in the molding to hide the wires.

    You only see the small stub and the plug in the power outlet.

    I have already posted this in another thread: I have used the 12-V from auto-dimming mirror to power my dashcam. The factory wires that come to auto-dimming mirror have two sources of 12V: one is always on and one energized after IG-On
