No harm. When you turn the car off, then open the door, the lights go out. When you start the car next time the lights will come on.

I leave them on all the time for safety.

No USA Prius model has DRL.

I'm in Switzerland. I received my Prius 5 days ago. When I turn the car off and open the door, the car starts beeping until I shut the lights off (they remain on). I must confess that I have not tried to close the door and see if the lights go out, but I have the feeling they wont.

Hi I was lucky to find my2005 prius 130 miles away and in stock.drove there,picked it up and drove home.He was the only dealer that would give me my wifes toyota emply discount.
on the way home in the daylight i turned on my headlights by habit.and got 42 mpg.i thought about it a couple days later and felt leaving the lights on in the daytime i was running down the batt. and causing the ice to run more ofter.dont know if im right or wrong but i dont turn the lights on in the daytime anymore.

 

Neglibible mileage penalty for headlights. The HIDs use about half the power of halogens, so they are even less of a drag.

 

Well, as stated the Canadian market Prius *does* have DRL. They turn on at somewhat lower intensity than regular low beam, so the bulb life isn't impacted that much.

My 1990 4Runner appeared to use the Swedish method of DRL: once it started *all* the running lights came on. I became quite handy at replacing the sealed beam headlights: this was something that required removal of the grille, so it *was* a big deal. Also running lamps too.

Although there will be a negligible impact on MPG by driving around with the headlights to On all the time, be prepared to replace headlight bulbs and running bulbs more often.

The European Prius cuts out the headlights when you turn off, but leaves the sidelights on. You can reactivate the headlights by turning the switch all the way to off then back on again.
