DC to AC power plugs

    What you see there is just the output jack. What you don't see is the inverter. You can buy them from a lot of places, including Radio Shack.

    The inverter converts 12VDC to 115V AC. Be aware none of them are 100% efficient, the best approaching 90-95% efficiency. Even at that good efficiency, if you want to draw, say, 100W at 115VAC you need to put in 112W at 12 VDC. That's about 9.3 Amps at 12V and 8 Amps at 13.8V (when the car is on). If the car is off you can quickly drain the 12V battery.

    Also, most of these devices put out a square wave or modified square wave. Some electronics will not be happy with that. The units that put out a sine wave do so with a lot of distortion, and are only about 80% efficient, so the current draw will increase from the above numbers.

    But if you really need 115V AC in your car they are a solution.

    We have a 1000W inverter on our boat. You should see the size of the 12V cables on that.
