    Hi All,
Received call from Steven at Sunnyvale Toyota. I can have my third choice 2nd week in October. My first choice was a #9 Salsa and the 3rd is #9 Silver. Like to hear from board members what they thing. Darker color or lighter color. We have a mini van that is silver and we sold 2001 Prius that was silver. Just the other day after seeing alot of silver ones on the road, I thought I kind of like silver. I told the wife when I came home and she said what ever. She asked if I wanted to call the dealer and I said what ever happens. So now the decesion by tomorrow.

Color couldn't have meant less to me (I didn't want black or red, but would have taken either), but I wound up with a silver no. 3. I traded a silver 1992 Ford Escort for it (or 5% of it...) and am happy with the color. It doesn't show dirt easily, and the interior colors match the exterior quite well. Beyond that, I don't really see the paint color very much when I'm driving, and otherwise I don't see the car - so it could secretly be a chameleon and I'd never know it. That'd be kind of cool, actually... :p

It is all personal preference! :) I would not buy a black car, but there are those on the forum who said they would ONLY buy black. My first choice was Seaside (blue) BC or AM but when the dealer called Tuesday to say he had a Driftwood BC, I had to decide. Wait or take it. Decided to take it, even though it was #3 or 4 on my color list.

Silver was my first choice. I think the color looks very good on the car, sort of like a Sci-fi look. Just my opinion. I was in the any color but black camp.

Silver was also my first choice, and I will say, now that I have the car, that the color is nicer than I imagined. It seems to change slightly depending on the light from quite a bright pure silver to almost a light silver taupe in the late afternoon. It definately shows dirt and fine surface scratches much less than black or red or other solid, dark colors. I can't imagine that you would be terribly unhappy with it, although I'm biased admittedly. Good luck on your choice -- you will adore the car no matter which color you choose.

Silver is statistically the safest car color. I don't know if it's because of the visibility (seems unlikely) or because people who choose silver tend to be more cautious drivers, but that's what the research says.

Sounds to me like a non-issue. The really important thing is the options package, and that's your first choice. The color makes little difference unless it's a color you hate, and you don't hate silver, and even think it looks kind of nice. Buy the car. That's my suggestion.

I got a call from my dealer yesterday also. I am #1 on the list for a 2005 Silver BC. He said he had a 2004 Tideland Pearl coming in tomorrow. Would I want it? I turned it down. After waiting since January, I want my first choice of color and model year. If I have to wait a few more weeks, that's ok. BTW the price for both is still MSRP.

Silver is my FIRST choice because of the INTERIOR!
I didn't want a light color interior and except for black and white Silver is the only color you can get with the gray/burgundy interior. So far very pleased with my choice

Wife and I got back from dealer. We are going with Silver. Car should (fingers crossed) be at dealer 2nd week in October. It has been around a 6 month wait. Already bought factory EV switch. Looking to install paint protection vinyl. Also maybe XM if I can talk the wife into it :) Downloaded alot of cool stuff from you guys and ladies.

I realize that color is mostly a personal preference issue. I personally like white, but would lean towards silver if it really made a big difference in terms of showing dirt. Surprisingly, I have not found white cars in the past to show their dirt as much as I thought they would.
So has anyone out there seen near equally dirty white and silver Prii and can pass along their thoughts?
    thanks!

It boils down to what you want. My wife and I were just out looking around to see if anyone had a Prius in stock, so she could sit in it and see how she fit. She is 5'11" and I'm 6'4". When we got to the dealer, they had just gotten a black #4 in...they were a first-come, first-serve dealer when it came to Prii. I thought it was sold and so did the dealership, at first, but when they checked it wasn't ... it was black with the beige interior. Both my wife and I love black...it has that classic look...the wheels don't look so small on a black Prius either....I know it's a bear to keep clean, but it does look so classic, hence why I bought a black Avalanche last year. Like I said personal preference and what you can live with. My wife had said that if she couldn't get black she could live with Salsa Red, but not the silver or the green...those were out. So you go with what you like.

I've been giving car colors some thought lately. I really like the blue, but the dealer called me yesterday to say that he 'might' have a silver for me since he's having trouble getting hold of the person ahead of me on the list.

I'm not particularly fond of the silver, though it's not bad. But I really like the darker interior. It got me thinking, what's more important, the exterior or the interior color? I bet as a driver/passenger, one sees the interior a lot more than the exterior. It makes me wonder who I'm trying to please, myself or everyone else?

Anyway, that's what I've been thinking about lately. I had decided that I'd take the silver when the dealer called to say that the person ahead of me took it. That's life on the waiting list!

I chose silver because my last car was hotter in the summer than any car I have owned. It was dark green. I think I made a good choice in the silver seems to be cooler in the sun.

I agree that the silver is a very practical color. Stays cool and doesn't show the dirt very much.

But what of the interior--any thoughts about the pros and cons of the different interior colors?

Mine are gray. As far as I know the only choice for the Millennium Silver. I spilled a tiny bit of coffee and it came out with plain water, with ease I might add. The fabric seems quite forgiving.

We have no option on interior colour trims. We get "Grotty Grey" thats it. I would have loved a tan colour with my Arctis Blau. :( Somehow tan has more style.

    charliep,
I'm on a mission now. I must advise you and everyone to specifically tell the Toyota dealer that they are not to put the front license plate holder on the car if you don't need it. However, if you do need it, insist that they use the license plate holder. If you have to walk out and show them the dimples where the screws belong, do that.

If you decide later to install the plate holder, predrill where the dimples are and go buy some metric size 6 bolts. The plate holder comes with screws for the bumper, but not metric size 6 to hold the plate to the holder. Go figure.

Sounds stupid, I know. But when I picked up my car, someone had screwed the plate directly into my bumper crooked and off-center.
