I went to a dealer today and inquired about the prius v. The dealer only had one in stock to which he provided the invoice dated 7/15/2010. The car was not available to be viewed because it was stored elsewhere and today was Sunday. The dealer tried to make me leave a $1000.00 deposit to hold the vehicle and wanted me to sign the finance papers to hold the vehicle. Red flags are going off. Does it seem right that this vehicle is still in inventory? I didn't sign or pay anything. I will go and check this vehicle tomorrow.

My Prius was in stock quite a long time, the V's sell kind of slow because they cost more. Mine was in stock for 9 months and I've had absolutely no trouble with it, so I consider myself lucky for it to have been there.

The storage off site and $1000 deposit or signing finance papers sight unseen, now that I'd have a problem with!

Thanks for the reply. I will leave a follow up after viewing the car. After doing my research this is the price point I came up with for the NY area:

    Prius V

    INVOICE PRICING (msrp)

    base price 26,129 (28,070)
options 4,967 (6,038) adv tech. package, dimming mirror, remote start
    destination 760 (760)

What is a fair price to offer the dealer?

25K. and expect to spend a bit because it's been sitting around so long.

I didn't have to spend any extra because it was sitting around longer -- I haven't even needed warranty work yet, but if I did, that would have been taken care of just the same as one right off the truck. Not to mention mine isn't one that rattles or had the rough start symptoms.

To the OP, I'd be surprised if they let it go for under 30K given the options, but you can always start with 25K like bisco says. :)
