I recently had a dealer install the integrated sirius satelite, the interface works great, but the sound quality is horrid. It's not ALL that bad I suppose, but there is this buzzing/rattle coming from the right speaker at pretty much all times. Anyone know what the issue is or of a fix? Should I take it back?

I have an 06 by the way

Take it back, there should be no buzzing/rattle sounds.

Sounds like they didn't ground it correctly.

Where should the unit be? Or where should the ground be? I'll try to check it out myself.

    I'm having the same problem.
I find it worse on the talk stations.
    How can I ground it?
I've had speakers replaced and the amp.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that's the problem, just what I think it sounds like in my limited experience with audio.

Okay, I'm one of the many here on PriusChat who have been dealing with this
mysterious "static" issue when using the OEM Sirius Satellite Tuner.

Let me just say that I believe it is NOT a grounding issue.

I've had my 2006 Package 4 (no Nav/no JBL) back at the dealership 3 times now
trying to get this issue rectified.
    We have unsuccessfully tried:
    1.) Replacing the satellite antenna
2.) Replacing the satellite tuner (with another Solara sat tuner)
3.) Replacing the factory head unit.
No static from any other source (FM/AM/CD), so the distortion MUST be in the signal coming from the sat tuner.

I spoke with the guy at Factory Interactive (John, I think) who sells these tuners with an install kit
and instructional video under the "SiriusPrius" name (although my dealer did not get my tuner from them).
He said, and I'm starting to agree with him, that he bleieves the issue is within the satellite tuners themselves. Same exact tuner in an XM version has no issues. He says he has had several defective units
in the Sirius version (either not working at all or with the static issue).

I've read here on PriusChat where MetroTPN (another supplier of the OEM Sirius Sat tuner for the Prius)
reports selling several of their Sirius tuners for the Prius to owners of 2006 models. Some work fine, some have the static issue. Makes me think that the quality control for that particular tuner (manufactured by Audiovox, I'm told) may be less than adequate. Maybe there was a "bad batch" released.

At this point I'm not sure what to do......maybe have the dealer order a dozen, try them all out until they find one that works properly, and send back the rest???

Anyone else out there have any ideas, or better yet, success stories?
    Speak up PLEASE!

I have the Sirius tuner from Factory Interactive in an '06 w/JBL and have the static issue. I am addicted to Sirius so I am unwilling to give it up. I spoke to John (more than once) and the feedback that you have is the same answer that he gave me. He said that he would replace it when he got a solution back, but so far 'no luck.'

I wish I had better news.

Okay...got my car back today from the Dealer.
You guessed it, still having the static problem.
Dealer has given up...."exhausted all their options".

At this point, we are going to wait on the Vais Soundlinq-SLX
that's specially made to work with a Sirius tuner (current model
can only work with the Terk XMDirect tuner). They say it will be out
in 4 to 6 weeks. Dealer is still willing to try and "make it right" and
will (I think) buy the new Vais piece and tuner and install it for me.

I'll post back here on PriusChat if it all falls in place and actually WORKS!

    ....the saga continues......

Someone had Kearny Mesa Toyota put a "jumper wire" on theirs and it fixed the problem. What does that mean? I live 2500 miles from there...so that is a ways to go and try to fix it.

If a tech in the service department at Kearny Mesa Toyota was able to make the fix,
then I'd hazard a guess that, given adequate instructions, any dealer's service department
(and some of us DIYer's out here) could pull it off......just need details.
I've sent a PM to the poster (2006Black) that left the original post asking for those
details. We will see where it goes.

Okay.....I think I've finally gotten to the bottom of it all.....thanks to Steve Szabo,
a service tech at Kearny Mesa Toyota in San Diego, CA.
There is a modification that can be done, effectively shorting two pairs of pins in
the wiring harness between the Sat Tuner and the factory head unit.
I'll be having the modification done to my 2006 Prius in the very near future......if
successful, I'll post the instructions here on PriusChat for all to see.....with a nice diagram,
pictures, and everything....I know how much everyone loves pictures here on PC.
Don't want to jump the gun before I know it's going to work.....but they claim
this the fix we've all been looking for.

If this works I will F'n kiss you. I do not listen to my Sirius as much as I'd like because of the noise. I listen to Stern and that is about it. Last he was here in my area it was on an AM station, where the sound quality sucks. So I can justify it to myself that way.
