I just purchased a used 2012 prius v with 25k miles. I got a hold of some old maintenance records through Toyota owners portal, and it has this service from 2013.

    05/23/2013, 6500 miles
CHECK AND ADVISE ON UNDERNEATH DAMAGE AFTER RAN OVER DEER
WOULD NEED TO REPLACE CABLES, EST $840 LABOR,$863 PARTS

Whatever this is, I am sure it is fixed since the car is fine and has passed multiple inspections since then. But I am curious... What could this be? $840 in labor would be something like 7 hours of labor assuming the typical $120/hr dealer rate. What cable/cables under the car would cost $863 in parts and take 7 hours to replace? Maybe the main traction wires (the thick orange ones)? or perhaps "cable" means brake cables?

I have not gotten under the car yet but it drives perfect with no issues.

good question. not sure if the high voltage cables are part of the wiring harness, but that is more like $6-8,000. so maybe not.

That's your best bet, look for obvious signs, new/clean components, any scuffs, dangling/missing plastic shields, holes with no fasteners.

Mystery solved! Here is the broken part under the car.

It does look like the main traction battery cable, and the white bracket that holds the cable is broken in several places. It looks like it was zip-tied a long time ago. This is the area just ahead of the rear wheels, under the floorboard of the rear passenger seat.

The selling dealer has ordered this white plastic bracket from Toyota, however we are very unsure whether we got the right part numbers. $50 in parts. We'll see how easy it is to replace it once they get the part. It comes as top and bottom separately from Toyota so it looks like a simple replacement.

Well I've searched high and low and can't get the part numbers for this white bracket. I'm convinced that Toyota does not sell it separately and we just ordered the wrong part. The entire cable assembly is about $500 on discount and I don't think I will go that route.

I may have to buy a used cable off eBay just to grab that bracket. Or rig something up to keep it better secured than a single zip tie.

Haha. No I think that original quote from 2013 is the cost to replace the entire cable assembly, since I don't think Toyota sells that plastic bracket separately. To replace the harness, I think you have to take out the hybrid battery and quite a few things on top or bottom of engine bay.

    I'm definitely not doing that.

How many miles and years does it have on the tie-wraps?

    re: tie wraps
It has been tied like that for about 3 years and 15k miles. That is my best guess based on old maintenance records.

Are you missing this whole panel, maybe both sides?

Ah woops, not paying attention. I was actually taking a look under our (regular third gen), looking for comparison, lol. Not sure about the v. Hopefully someone with the right vehicle can take a look, chime in.

Not sure. There are some good pictures of the undercarriage of the v in this thread, and I don't see any undercarriage covers on that.
Granted it is a modding thread so not sure if this is stock appearance.
