We all know our Pri have 'guess' gauges rather than gas gauges, so I was wondering how long after a recent fill up before a pip would disappear. For me, it was 187 miles. What is your 'record'? lol

I've seen the same behavior, but I haven't acctually measured it. The top pip on the gas gauge disappears after 150-200 miles. I just figured the gas tank had extra "head room" above the measuring device.

I've also noticed that the pips disappear faster as the the tank approaches empty (or is that just my imagination?)

My wife just walked in, saw what I was typing, and said she'd seen the same behavior in her Prius too,

Mine is the same way, altho my first pip disappears somewhere around 100 miles and the last few go faster than I'd expect given my tank MPG on the MFD.

But then, my last car, a Chevy with an analog gas gauge, was the same way - the pointer would stay on 'F' for a very long time, then drop slowly to the 3/4 tank mark. After the half-tank mark, it would drop very rapidly.
And I'm pretty sure my previous cars did the same thing.

    Hi Jetstar,

During the 60 mpg + tanks I had this summer the first pip went out at 225 miles. But, the second was out by 250.

I usually see the first one disappear right at 185 miles also. At least there is some consistency in the gas guage as most people see the first pip go around that figure.

Mine disappears anywhere between 75 and 125 miles.

Yeah, I haven't tracked it before. But earlier this year, I was driving from So. Indiana up to Chicago and I swear it was pushing 200 before the first pip disappeared. It has never taken that long before and I was actually starting to wonder if something was wrong.

I've never gone more than about 150 miles on the first pip. At times it has disappeared after only 35 miles or so.

My first tank stayed at full until the first pip disappeared at 180 miles. Since then, it has been more like 80-120 miles. I am still averaging about 47 mpg in the first 4000 miles of my Prius, and feeling good about the mileage of my young Prius. I think my first tank was a fluke.

After an "almost-burp" a while back it was north of 220 miles when
the top pip finally went out. Too much gas in there. Usually it's
around 100 or a little more.

In warm weather (more flexible fuel bladder) and after topping off the tank for several pump clicks, I've had it go as much as 250 miles. In cold weather (less bladder flex), it often is less than 100.

The longest I've seen it go was 160 miles on Interstate 5 in Southern Oregon. I was driving a fairly consistent 60-70 miles an hour for more than two hours, with some gradual hills. Over the next 20 miles, it dropped three more pips, putting the gauge in line with how much should have been in the tank. Under normal city driving, the first pip usually disappears at around 60-80 miles.
