Do anyone go longer than 5000miles oil change?

I was going to change my oil today, (at 4900 miles since the last), but it still looks new..

Just like gas, i dont like to waste it.

Now i dont mind spending the $12 (oil @ autozone) or the $19 thru $24 for the Toyota oil change. but WHY change the oil, if it doesnt need it..

but then again, i dont want the car to break down, later on in life..

So my question, do anyone go longer than 5000miles?
    (6k? 7k? 8k? 10k?

7500mi OCI using synthetic oil here. UOAs have been perfect, so could probably go longer.

We do change at 5K (or so...), though we do use Mobile1 and a Bosch filter.

We also rotate the tires at 10K.

I was changing my 2006 at 7500 miles. Since my Intrigue was rated at 7500 miles & the Prius' ICE didn't run as much I believe the 5000 mile OCI was very conservative. A search on oil change intervals will bring up a wealth of info from the people who performed used oil analyses.

5,000 miles!!?? You crazy!! It's sooo wastefull! I'm at over 15,000 miles OCI on Mobil 1 :D

BTW, www.bobistheoilguy.com is a great website on questions of oil and other maintenance fluids/greases.. They have a very robust forum sections. Here is the link to the discussion on my last oil sample of my Prius.. Mobil 1 5w-30, 15,143 '07 Toyota Prius - Bob Is The Oil Guy

Here is my last UOA.. let me know what you think ;)

With my Gen III, I just changed oil after going 10,000. I had the deal change oil at 1000.

I think I will keep the 10,000 mile change.

Does anyone go longer than 5000 miles for their oil change?...
Yes, i do...i have 2 prii and my interval is 8000-10000 miles with MOBIL 1...0W-20 in the winter and 5W-30 in the summer...no problems whatsoever...so a 3000 mile interval is a waste, especially with synthetic...

When the Prius Gen 3 came out and Toyota promulgate the official 10,000 mi frequency, I decided to change to Mobil 1 and to a 10,000 mi interval. So far so good. Not really saving money (due to the Mobil 1), but saving time and reducing oil consumption.

I have been using Mobil 1 for over 20 years in all my cars. I change the oil 1 x per a year, or 15K miles, whichever comes first. I've never had a problem. When Mobil 1 was first introduced, they claimed 25K miles between oil changes. BMW now uses the oil on an OEM basis, and I think they are recommending a 10K mile interval.

I take care of a 2001, 2007, and 2010 Prius (and 2010 Corolla). I go between 15000 and 20000 miles on each of them. However, to do this:

Use Amsoil 5W-30 or 0W-20 specifically formulated for AECA A5/B5 or A1/B1 specifications and 25000 mile service (or any professional synthetic)

Perform UOAs at 10000 or 15000 depending on previous results. Changing at 15000 or 20000 has depended on Fuel Contamination levels.

While a host of folks warn of warranty revocation, I go through with this anyway since:

1-I want to take care of my car based on engineering knowledge, not fear.

2-Greatly reduce the wasting of everything, including perfectly good oil.

3-Reward the makers of really good oil, not barely acceptable oil.

    4-Detect Engine contamination problems early.

5-Save money (That was not intended, but that's what is happening going the high quality route)

6-Spend a lot less time changing oil (Again, not intended, but still the result. UOAs are really fast to do.)

Just for reference the Toyota recommended OCI is 10000km (or about 6200 miles) here in Australia. I've mostly been going a bit over that amount, usually about 12000km (7500 miles).

Limiting it to 7500 miles seems like a relatively safe interval if you use a good name brand quality oil, it probably doesn't even need to be full synthetic. Over 10000 miles seems to be the point where you have to be a lot more cautious about your choice of oil and getting used oil analysis done etc.

Nope, no one does this, as can be seen above.

I have extended my interval to 5k with Mobil(not Mobile) 1 and a Japan oil filter. That is the way I feel comfortable. I have a number of good technical reasons, and it is pointless to explain here. I chose Mobil 1 because of a sale at the time, no other reason.

"Extended"? 5K is what is recommended in the owner's manual. That's not going out on any sort of limb.

5k change the filter only. 15k change the oil. Mobil 1 5-30. Had analysis done on the oil and filter (fram). Could go to 20k easy. Same question been asked/answered a dozen times. Do a search. ;)

I'm going 10K miles on my current oil (Mobil 1, which I've used from my first change). After the drive train warranty expired, I started increasing the interval incrementally by 2.5K miles each. Like Alexilic, I submit a sample to Blackstone after each change, and the incrementing is at their recommendation.

In the UK toyoa recommend oil change at 10,000 miles using approved oils.

The driving I usually do is short trip, not normal. I extended 3k to 5k using synthetic with the Japan filter. Cold running can lead to sludge formation. There are endless discussions pro and con about UOA, and what the numbers even mean. I do know that the UOA companies are happy the average Joe is sending his sample in. I change the oil instead, flushing the old oil out with what it has caught.

I use Fram long fliters on my Prius and Mobil 1, I change oil and filter at 10,000 miles.
