    Hi Everyone,

I commute 55 miles each way in SoCal so I really need HOV access.

Wondering if anyone knows if NGV or pure electric vehicles will retain HOV privileges after our Yellow Sticker expires.

NG and EV cars do not get a yellow sticker--they have a white (silver?) sticker and to my knowledge have no expiration or limit on the number of stickers issued. It's just the hybrid cars that are being limited.

That's not what I thought. Perhaps one of us can find a link to a DMV page that clarifies this...

    Or YOU can
Yes that's the truth but I'm too lazy to find it too

It sure looks strange to find a single occupany pick up or van or taxi going HOV ... even WITH the white stickers. The only thing stranger is FEDEX. They'll deliberatly stick a passenger / employee in the trucks JUST so they can get down to Los Angeles Int. Airport quicker. Something about that just seems superwrong.

    Short answer: no.

Long answer: Assembly Bill 2600, introduced in 2006, would have extended the expiration date for EVs, NGVs, and LPVs to December 31, 2012 and left standing the December 31, 2008 expiration date for HEVs (hybrids). As expected in politics, the bill was amended several times - the final version extended the expiration date for EVs, NGVs, LPVs, and HEVs to December 31, 2010 and increased the HEV HOV stickers from 75,000 to 85,000.

Sorry I didn't have up-to-date information in my initial post...according to this link http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/decal.htm ALL clean air vehicle stickers expire Jan 1, 2011 (unless they extend it again). I was under the impression that the white stickers didn't expire, but I did not re-check that info after the yellow sticker expiration got extended.

There is still no stated limit on the number of white stickers issued, so you can buy a CNG or electric vehicle and get a sticker with no problem.
