Do your rear brake discs have that rust ring close to the center?
My gen3 had it and gen4 was delivered to me this way (June 21st). The front ones are perfectly clean. Do you have the same at the back?

Just looked at my Gen 3 brakes - they look similar to yours. I would guess that the brake pads are a fraction smaller than the available disk

Exactly, but I wonder why... And why the front ones instead are perfect. And the same on gen4... Weird...
Btw: when are you getting yours, since you already paid?

Sitting here, all dressed up, ready to head for the door, waiting for the call ;)

I expect to hear from them within the next few days. I having some extras fitted, including a navigation head (that clips onto the back of the existing touch-screen display and integrates with it) so that I will be able to add Waze (or something similar) - I love my built-in GPS navigation.

    No - see photo.

However, the front disks appear (though I didn't measure them) to have a wider friction surface than the rears, so the rust mark could be inside the swept area of the disk?

Just for my understanding, the pic you post here is from the front or the rear wheels?

My very first guess is cost cutting. That rotor is probably shared with something else, rather than casting one specifically for the Prius. In balancing the brakes they needed less stopping force on the rear of the Prius so they use a smaller caliper and pads. Just my random shot in the dark... BTW, that line where you see the pad isn't making contact with the inner portion of the rotor is normal. Not just with the Prius but with many cars from different manufacturers.

Can you tell me more about this head?

I doubt it. My front rotor rust line eats into the pad area thereby reducing the friction surface.

Our 3rd gen rears, around 61,000 km now. I've had them opened up, replaced pads once (long story). Anyway, about the same as yours.

Fronts, for comparison, have a broader rust band, at least 1/4":

I will be able to tell you more after I get the car. It is an option that is offered by the local Toyota dealer.

Only the rear ones look like this - not the front ones. It was the same in the Gen3 I had.

OK - so from what I see the rear discs can look like that and it is normal. Thanks all for your feedback and pics!
As for the wheels, I think only the plastic inserts are made in China, not the alloy wheels themselves.

I've never really understood this concern. FWIW, it seems like everything here is made in China. Oh, I've got a galvanized steel pail made in Canada; that's about all we can handle, lol.

Yep, my gold rings (of burning love) are only on the rear discs. The fronts are nice and shiny.
