Does everyone's 2nd gen consume/burn/lose a little bit of oil?

194k on mine. I noticed that I lost a bit of oil over 6000 miles while changing the oil. About half a quart or less I believe.

I know it's common, but is it normal for all 2nd gens to lose at least some? I understand you can lose some from evaporation, not sure if that amount is negligible though. And with the capacity being so small, a half a quart would be much more noticeable than it would be in my truck that takes 6 quarts for example. I ordered the BG Hybrid Performance kit, going to give it a try regardless.

How about yours? Does even a healthy, well maintained Prius still lose some oil?

    Yes.
Your engine is doing just fine if you're burning ~1 quart in 6k miles. Nothing to stress about.

Very common for this engine above 150K or so.

EVERY engine uses some oil. Ideally it's not very much. A quart in 6000 miles is "nothing". The old standard going back decades is a quart per 3000.

Most dealers won't do anything until use exceeds a documented quart per 1000 miles.

My bought new 07 didn’t. 14 years later sold it no oil loss.

But a lot of work over 14 years to make that happen.

For me It was really just a need to see if it was the life it lived or is that engine going to eat oil no matter how well you take car of it. I found it’s the life it lives or how well that life is.

Sry, but this is not possible on an ICE. EVERY ic engine consumes some amount of oil greater than "none", because there is no perfect seal and no perfect cylinder rings.

my 07 Camry hybrid which has oil burning/consumption issues (piston rings) didn't consume oil at all (maybe very little to notice (?), I do the oil changes myself since I owned it) after Toyota replaced the piston ring (recall) when it was at 100k miles, now it's at 206k miles.

that model year Camry and Prius has a recall for oil burning/consumption issues and the fix is free.

At 200,000 miles on the odometer I generally wind up adding 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart between 5,000 mile oil changes. I'm very satisfied with that.

With our previous parade of Hondas I’d see anywhere between a cup and three oil loss, about 2/3 of the way to the next oil change, typically at 5k mile intervals. Never thought it unusual.

current 2010 Prius apparently loses nothing, so far, ‘cept haven’t quite made it to 100k kms yet, maybe 65k miles or so.

Yes. pretty much all of them with that kind of mileage.

For that matter, almost ALL vehicles with near to 200K miles.
