    Hello all..
Does the NAV system have text to speech, "Turn left on Main St" or is it like the older Garmin units where it just says "turn left in 400 ft" or something like that?

    Thanks!

No, it does not have TTS. Just tells you which direction to turn.

It will tell you, "In a quarter mile, make a slight right onto I-90 East"... So, I think freeways may be in the system, but not city streets...

The NAV system has no text-to-speech, so it can only say "canned" words and phrases, as well as numbers. So it can tell you a highway number, but not a street name. It can also say things such as "ramp", "freeway", etc.

I've never found it to be a problem, since I use the split screen mode, and with a quick glance at the display you can easily see the street name, which is usually only necessary where there are several side streets close together.

It works fine for me too. You get several prompts for making the correct turn, right down to the "ping, ping" at the actual turn.

Sounds like it will be a step backwards in technology from my NUVI 350 but a step forward in convenience..Will be nice to not have to put it in and take it out all the time and seems like always I am needing to find some place in Austin and the Nuvi is at home..Will be nice to have a big screen too..Just wish their map upgrades were not so expensive..
