Yesterday morning my door was ajar, latched but loose, when I started up. I got a yellow warning triangle, a beep (I think) and message in a rectangle saying to put transmission in Park. My wife claims she saw a little car with open door symbol too, somewhere in the light show, guess I missed it. Anyway:

What is with this car, LOL? Couldn't it just tell you you've got a door ajar?

We've noticed the same strange sequence a couple times lately with the door ajar when we tried to start.

Thinking it through, I can kind-of see Toyota's rational:

A very common scenario could be that you've pulled over and stopped, the engine's shut down, but the car's still "on". You open a door to get out, so it freaks out, tells you you better at least put it in Park.

What if you're rolling though, and a door comes ajar, wonder what it's going to say then? Still warn to put it in Park? Maybe depends on your speed. Guess I'll try it and see, ;)

With the PIP, the car even lets you know if either of the filler doors are open. :D
