Kepler to launch 800 hp hybrid electric supercar

    Text:
The last supercar to come directly from Ford was the Ford GT, which ended production in 2006. Then there was the Ford-based Saleen S7 supercar, and now Kepler Motors is utilizing a Ford-based 550 horsepower 3.5-liter, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 in conjunction with a 250 hp electric motor to propel its latest supercar creation.

Kepler Motors announced today that it will be unveiling its latest super, known as MOTION, a dual-powertrain hybrid supercar at the 2009 Dubai International Motor Show later this week.
The MOTION supercar combines a rather large list of technologies into a single package starting with the first engine: a modified 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 – modified to produce 550 hp solely for rear-wheel consumption. Kepler’s take on the Ford EcoBoost V6 produces just over double the power Ford originally intended. Driving the front wheels is a 250 hp electric motor – for a combined 800 hp, Dual-Powertrain Technology (DPT) all-wheel drive experience.
This odd, yet effective hybrid system launches this supercar from zero-to-60 miles per hour in under 2.5 seconds.
Kepler also focused on creating an ultra-lightweight and highly aerodynamic vehicle – created largely out of carbon fiber and composite materials for weight savings in the monocoque chassis and body – without a loss in strength. This combination of light-weight materials and special attention to aerodynamics helps to bring the MOTION to a top speed over 200 mph.
Staying true to a complete supercar’s list of requirements, the MOTION also features StopTech’s new high-performance Continuous Carbon Ceramic (C3) AeroRotors on all four wheels. The MOTION also features active aerodynamic technology, active suspension, launch control and programmable track assistant system.
Kepler Motors has announced that it will only be releasing a very limited run of 50 vehicles starting in 2011, but pricing has not been released.

Interesting that they include all the "active" parts on the car. A lot of manufacturers (particularly Japanese ones) had them on their cars in the early 90s, but the weight penalty wasn't justified by performance improvements.

I can imagine the Top Gear review ... if they ever get to.
