I just got back from my local go-kart racing track and I got to thinking. Do they make an electric racing go-kart? I was thinking that an electric kart would flat out whip the Briggs and Stratton guys and heck even whip the 2 cycles. Those karts only have one gear and most of them are geared for top speed. I was think how cool it would be to have an electric race them. With an electric you would have full torque, pure acceleration, and high top speed. Everything needed for a good race except for the battery charge life but it would only need to hold out for about 30 laps.

Yeah I know I would not be able to race in the same class as the gas guys but I think to race in an electric kart would be fun. Does anyone know if they make electric racing go-karts?

I raced for a season back in 2001 in the stock light class. That class was the roughest class out there. I had many wrecks mostly caused by other drivers and I flipped over once. In all I finished the season in 4th place. Not bad for my first time ever in real life racing.

Oh and they had mini sprints there at the track tonight. Man those things are fast! The track is only 1/5th of a mile oval and I swear they had to be doing 100+mph.

They definitely do. Last spring, i was in St. Louis with a high school group i was mentoring for a robotics competition, and one evening we went to an indoor electric go kart track. pretty cool!

There's also an active electric barstool racing sub-culture, but no kits are available (which is how it should be, I think).

Its good to know that there is a kit out there. Is there any information on batteries used or how long a charge will last with one of these things? I must be searching for the wrong things or something because I cant find much information about electric racking go-karts.
