Just walked by the back end of my new Prius III and heard what sounded like a electric motor running from the general area of the exhaust pipe at the right rear end of the car. This was about 5 hours after I last drove it.

What am I hearing? Does it have anything to do with either battery?

It's normal, it's the exhaust fuel evaporation leakage check and is mentioned in the manual... Enjoy your Prius :)

Found this right here on Priuschat:

Also, moving to the Gen II forums since your profile says you have a Gen II, not a Gen III (which is where you posted your question).

Edit again, oops, saw you said now it was a Prius III but assuming you did not update your profile. Nonetheless, it is still normal for your car to be performing this noise. It's the vapor recovery system...
