I just back from a real bummer service visit.

Came in because my 2012 Prius with under 40K has been periodically showing the ABS/Traction lights, at cold starts, turns off after turning the car off and on. Most recently, check hybrid system light has been turning on.

So the service dept ran codes and got a whole host of random codes. The worst part of it all is he said he asked me if the car has ever been "under water" (it hasn't) and thinks I should just "pawn off" the car since there's too much supposed water damage to the electronics - not sure how he came to that conclusion other than the musty A/C smell.

So then he tried to clear the codes and it didn't clear and now the Check Hybrid doesn't turn off! So he made the whole situation worse.

I'm going to take it to another dealer, but Wth?!

    Any words of wisdom?

    He gave me the codes:

    Round 1:

B126A - Remote Engine Starter ECU Communication Stop

    Round 2:
    UO129 - Hybrid Control
    UO129 - Cruise Control
    C1231 - ABS/VSC/TRAC
    U0073 - ABS/VSC/TRAC
    UO126 - ABS/VSC/TRAC

    UO293 - ABS/VSC/TRAC
    B1216A - Main Body
    B1650 - SRX Airbag
    U0073 - Navigation

    Round 3
    UO129 - Hybrid Control
    UO129 - Cruise Control
    U0073 - ABS/VSC/TRAC
    UO126 - ABS/VSC/TRAC
    UO293 - ABS/VSC/TRAC
    UO142 - Air Conditioning
    UO100 - Combination Meter
    B1216A - Main Body
    U0073 - Navigation
    UO293 - Navigation
    UO293 - Power Source Control

    welcome!

have you owned the car since new?

how is the 12 volt battery health?

    any accidents?

    any aftermarket parts?

is there another dealer in the area?

Yes I am the first owner.

Have not checked the health of the 12 volt.

    No accidents.

The only aftermarket part was the remote start put in by the dealer I bought it from.

Yes, I'll find another dealer for sure.

    Thank you!

12 volt can cause a lot of funny issues. no idea if it's related, but worth a ten dollar investment in a meter.

I'm voting for the remote start installed by the dealer as the problem source. Good luck getting them to admit that.

Why do you have a musty smell? Is your cabin air filter cruddy? Has some critter been munching on your wiring?

I'm wondering if something got in there and munched on the wiring. I did find some suspicious looking newspaper that could've been a nest about a year ago. I'm going to air it out and I also bought a new cabin filter and engine air filter. Then try to get out the musty smell from the A/C. Also, will test the 12V battery and see if the remote start can be taken out...

Since U0129 is a current code, look for a problem in the wiring harness between the power management control ECU (behind the glove compartment) and the skid control ECU (in the engine compartment, mounted on the firewall, need to remove the sheet metal cowl tray that the windshield wiper motor lives in for access, look for the ECU attached to the brake actuator assembly that has several brake hydraulic lines connected.) Also look at the wiring running to the engine ECU (engine compartment, near the driver's side fender.)
