I understand that if the gas tank is overfilled then the emission system may be damaged by gas spilling into the vapor collector (don't remember the exact jargon for it). My question is that whether such spill would be caused by driving up (or down) a steep hill right after filling up the gas tank. Thanks!

I seriously doubt Toyota would've left this type of design flaw in a car. But, from what I understand, you would just about have to flip the car over for this to be a problem. Fuel would have to back all the way up to the gas cap for it to spill down the other path and cause a problem.

San Francisco with its steep hills has its fair share of Prius owners and no one has posted about this being an issue.
