So will it still be good for those who purchased in 2017?

Looks like it. After December 31, 2017, it will expire for purchases after that point.

Here is statement from that link above:

The version of the plan released today in the U.S. House of Representatives proposes immediate repeal of the credit; its language will likely be marked up considerably, and it still has to be passed by the U.S. Senate before it can go to President Donald Trump for his signature.
It's amazing how our truly honorable, intelligent, ethical, wise, conservative PATRIOTIC Congrass is looking out for us little guys. They help foster a cogent and green (money?) approach to protecting the environment for us and our kids, by eliminating those pesky tax credits for purchasing responsible cars!
    God bless them!!

Wonder how many people will buy in the next two months to beat the 12-31-2017 deadline?

It's like anything else in life. If you do the right thing, it will cost more to do it. Why does it cost more to eat healthy? Or soon, more to help the environment? Things that make you go hmmm!

I wrote my senators and representative via the Plug In America site and will probably follow up directly/individually with each. But I'm in Maryland, so mostly preaching to the choir - my delegation isn't going to vote for this bill anyway. Encourage those of you with GOP legislators to make some noise.

Majority of people in the southeast are against EV's. It is almost impossible to buy one from Toyota because they are only ordered by buyers request. Dealers don't order them to keep them in stock because Southeast Toyota Distributors won't let them. You either order one and pay full retail or drive hundreds of miles to get one where they are in stock. I was told that Southeast Toyota Distributors tell Toyota that there are no significant interests in their region to have the need to order them. I, fortunately, got the only one sent to my local dealer from Toyota. I think it was to possibily be a demo for the dealer but the dealer told me that they don't hold on to cars on their lot. They have only sold one other Prime because the person ordered it.

The government shouldn't be subsidizing private industry in any form. We can't pay our bills as it is. Borrowing more money from other countries (e.g. china) and retirement funds to give it to people to try to get them to buy something is insanity. If it's a good product and it makes economic sense people will buy it. The government shouldn't be in the business of picking winners and losers. Doing that just opens the faucet for special interests to buy our legislators.

I agree with above sentiment, but Congress doesn't , so we are where we are.

Anything is possible, but I'll be surprised if it goes thru like that. I would think the automakers might be very upset due to the impact on CARB credits they are expecting to get in 2018. If they cut it back, I'd be expecting industry to ask for gradual phase out over several years.

but the government gives millions of subsidies, so, choosing to kill this one isn't helpful. why not kill big oil subsidies?

Yikes? I was kinda expecting this, but I'm still waiting on my Prime. It is due in December. If they succeed in killing the credit at the end of 2017, I need to purchase it by December 30. Will I make it?

If you don't, you can cancel your order and buy one on a dealer's lot by December 30th by going a distance away to get one. It may be worth up to $4502 to do that trip.

I won't argue that a tax credit like this can benefit an industry, but "subsidize" is misleading IMO (that suggests a direct government-to-industry benefit). These are credits to consumers designed to drive behaviors (buying EVs) that support policy goals: cutting emissions, reducing reliance on foreign oil, spurring innovation. Plus, the money consumers save ultimately gets pumped back into the economy for countless other things beyond helping EV makers.
