We have a little over 100K on the car and have our first check engine issue. Dealer found a coolant valve and estimated $400 for the work. This sounded WAY to high. Any feedback?

Yes, there is a valve that routes engine coolant to the cabin heater core or to the coolant heat recovery system canister and that is a known problem area. If you don't like the $400 price then you might call the other Toyota dealers in your area to see what other repair quotes might be.
