Engine temp goes to 197, 199, then 201F when going up hill or getting up to freeway speed. Normal?

I have an OBD2 BT adapter running Hybrid Assistant and I've been keeping an eye on my engine and inverter temp's to hopefully avoid some major damage due to overheating and since all the summer 110F temps went away (not sure this means anything, it's just went I started noticing it), I've noticed the engine temp will creep up to 197, 199, then 201 when going up a steep long hill or up to 197-199 when getting up to freeway speed. When I run the engine brake (B-mode) and it sits there at 4k+ RPM, no matter how long I do that, engine temp drops down to like 190-192F. The engine otherwise normally only gets as hot as 195F.

Is this normal or is it a sign that my thermostat or water pump may be going bad? No problems with the inverter temps, they stay low around 100-110F (up to 130F when it was summer time).

The engine temperatures that you are seeing are normal. No need to worry. Just continue to monitor your temperatures so that you can detect a problem before the engine overheats. I also monitor my engine temperature.

The electric fan behind the radiator doesn't even turn on until about 204F.

No worries yet. When mine starts climbing, 204F seems to be a ceiling.

In B-mode engine braking, mine can cool off into the 180s, though that usually suggests lesser slopes and lower RPMs. On shallower slopes still, with minimal engine braking, it can get far cooler.

We see in a range of 191-199 degrees F at 70-75 mph on normal inclines at ambient 90-100 degree temperatures.

Temps are fine. Watch the hybrid battery temperature on hot days.
