Washington — Environmental and animal rights activists who have turned to arson and explosives are the nation's top domestic terrorism threat, an FBI official told a U.S. Senate committee on Wednesday.

Groups such as the Animal Liberation Front, the Earth Liberation Front and Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty are “way out in front†in terms of damage and number of crimes, said John Lewis, the FBI's deputy assistant director for counterterrorism.

    Wait a minute...

I'm no fan of the ALF, but who's America's top domestic terrorist threat:
    • A group that does a lot of property damage (and should be arrested for doing it)
    • Or a group that plots (and sometimes performs) murders on its citizens, and performs things like bank robberies to fund them (which ends up in people getting killed)?

      • To me, "biggest threat" comes down to, "Who's more dangerous to life and limb"? That's why vandalism and damage are considered lesser crimes than assault or murder.

Yes, the FBI should go after anyone breaking the law, including the ALF. But use some perspective, guys.
