EOE Safety Recall and Warranty Enhancement ZE3

    A few members have reported that they have had the EOE Safety Recall performed and have received a Warranty Enhancement ZE3 letter stating that the Inverter IPM warranty was being extended to 15 years and unlimited mileage.

    Reading the letter more closely it indicates that this warranty is specific to the vehicle with the VIN listed in the letter. So this appears that this is a vehicle specific warranty extension and not a blanket warranty extension for all vehicles included in the EOE Safety Recall.

    This poll is an attempt to determine how many members that have had the EOE Safety Recall have received a Warranty Enhancement ZE3 and to see if we can determine who qualifies for the ZE3 letter.

    Those that have received the Warranty Enhancement ZE3 letter it would be nice if you posted with your location.

    You have NOT done the EOE Safety Recall but you have received the Warranty Enhancement ZE3 letter ? Interesting. I did not think of this as a possible combination.

    This is my first poll and I do not see a way to edit the poll responses to add your combination.

    I wonder if xpcman's "letter" is the recall letter? Also: what was the VIN range for the warranty extension? I've received the inverter software update recall letter, done the recall, not gotten any further letter, about warranty extension.

    That is why I asked him the question above to be sure the letter he is referring to is the ZE3 letter.

    A copy of the Warranty Enhancement ZE3 can be found in this thread Inverter IPM - 15 year Warranty Enhancement ZE3 | PriusChat.

    The letter states that this Warranty Enhancement is specifically for the VIN stated in the letter. In other words for this one particular vehicle, not a VIN range.

    I have the Warranty enhancement Notification - ZE3 letter.

    I took the car in for the warranty work and they were unable to connect their computer to do the software update. I have not taken the car back to have them try again since I have been busy the last few months. I suspect the interface plug is damaged.

    My vin number is under 1500 being one of the oldest 2010's bought June 2009

    My guess:
    The reason the warranty extension letter contains the VIN is to limit the warranty to only the car covered by the warranty, not to determine whether the car is in the covered group. That determination is based on whether you are in a statistically defined group of potentially faulty inverters based on overall quality assurance and experience data, not individual car inspection or model year. My car was manufactured in June 2009.

    The above are two cars manufactured in June of 2009 that have received the ZE3 letter. My car was manufactured in July of 2009 with a VIN in the 036000+ range and I have not received a letter.

    Is Maryland a CARB state? The others that have received the letter so far are from California.

    Maybe from those that have received the ZE3 letter we will need the state of residence, the build date and the relative VIN number in order to see if we can determine the criteria for receiving the warranty extension.

    Northern Virginia - Received my warranty letter today and I had the recall done. I'd have to look up by build date, but it is a 2013, so I'm already an outlier in this thread.

    Received ZE3 letter on 10/23/14. Had EOE safety recall (motor generator ECU....) done 3/24/14.

    Received letter 10/30/14. Recall done 3/31/14. Looks like a 7 month spread between recall service and letter.

    Hmmm, interesting. Three owners reporting 7 months between the EOE recall and the ZE3 letter.

    I had the EOE recall performed on 4/11/14. Maybe I will receive my ZE3 letter in a couple of weeks ?

    An odd pattern, and one that I'm not a part of. I had the EOE recall performed 9/12/14, and received the ZE3 letter roughly a month ago - so only about a month between them for me.
