Extra Warranty and Add-Ons

I have just driven home in my new Prius (package #7) and only discovered this site after making the purchase.

I bought the Platinum Package (@ $1,100) and Engine For Life + Tire and Rim Protection for 5 years (@ $700). I was lead to believe that all of the Platinum package money is refundable after the coverage period (7yr/100,000) if I do not make a claim or a part of it is refundable if smaller claims are made. I was also told that this plan had to be purchased at the time of new car purchase for it to be refundable. Now I see that the refundable aspect is suspicious. Basically the finance guy at the dealership was low on details at best or just plain lying.

Appreciate your comments on the possibility of my getting a refund and signing up with the alternatives offered here. Are the other plans that I bought into any good?
