Do I need to notify ezpass when I change my license plates?

If you want to avoid a ticket during a tag mis-read, you should. If you have online account access you can do it there.

I changed my plates, forgot to tell them, went through EZ-Pass, got a nasty letter from them. I called them, they straightened everything out, but in retrospect I should have called them first.

I also got a letter threatening a fine when I got new plates. The EZ-Pass web site (at least the NY version) is pretty useless and I get errors most of the time when I try to change something. I ended up going to the nearest service center and they handled everything.

On the NY E-ZPass site, it's easy to change your plates or vehicle information:

Log on to your account using the "Check Your Account" link on the left

Click on "Vehicle/Tag Maintenance" on the purple menu bar.

Click on "Vehicle Maintenance" on the sub-menu

You should see a list of your vehicles

Click on the plate number in the first column, and you'll get to a maintenance screen where you can change the plate number, vehicle description, etc.

I've never had a problem using their Web site (I use Firefox)

If you don't have it already, ask for the NY Green program and save 10% on tolls as well!

Is there anything like that for NJ ? Aside from being able to drive alone in the HOV line of the NJ Turnpike, any other hybrid perks ? I have ez pass as well -

I believe driving in the HOV lanes between exits 11 and 14 of the NJT is the only hybrid perk available in NJ.

As for E-ZPass discounts, there are a bunch, but they generally are based upon the agency through which you have your E-ZPass. The below link should take you to a page that has hyperlinks to a number of the E-ZPass discounts available in and around NJ.

I wondered the same thing, but didn't see anything on the E-ZPass or NJTP sites. So I sent them a message asking if they participate in the Green program.

Oh well, I guess not. Here is the response from the NJ Turnpike Authority (which also includes the GPS):
