I just installed a factory EV switch I bought from Technogeek. It went a lot easier than I expected, it even has a LED in it that dims with the rest of the instruments and looks much nicer than my old radio shack switch. The Harness plugs came without retainer sockets so I found an old computer power supply and took some from the motherboard connecter, they were a PERFECT fit! Who knew having junk computers would be so useful, it was the same power supply I extracted a diode out of to do the independant fog light mod.

Very cool, benighted! I'm glad the dimmer is working too! Save those computer parts! You never know when you will need them. B)

Very nice. It looks like the car came with it installed from the factory.

Where did you purchase it? Do you have a link? Where can I purchase one? Did it come with thorough instructions?

You can get them from Sigma Automotive for $52

They don't come with instructions or the required sockets for the wiring harness. If you need the sockets I have a set I could sell you.

I was hoping to get my local Toyota dealer to install it, but I doubt they'd install it given that the device doesn't come with it's own instructions.

They'll usually install it for around $200 - $300 and they will get the parts for you

Are you sure? When I asked them to install the block heater, they had no idea what I was talking about.

That depends on how compotent your dealer is. Did you talk to a salesman or a tech?

Bring it to a Chicagoland meetup and Wayne, Matt, and I will install it for $50 apiece. Another $50 if you want Dan to take pictures.

Dealers will install these? I thought they voided the warranty. Dealers will install something that voids the warranty?

But that's only for the pictures. My professional smart-aleck commentary is an additional charge. :D

Hello! Hello! NOTHING can legally void your warrant if it screws nothing up. Can't happen. Consumers actually have some rights, and this is one of them.

You can even change your oil to a non-Toyota brand and keep your warranty in effect. You can change the tires. Even wax the car. As long as what you do doesn't screw anything up, your warranty is still in effect.

If it *does* screw something up, then all bets are off.

Is the EV switch available through Toyota? When my dealer tried to locate a block heater, he couldn't find one, even though it's available through Toyota Canada.

I wonder if this would be a similar situation.
