Factory XM Installed - Addtl Photos

    Here are some photos of the Factory XM Installed screens. There are 3 satellite bands. Each band has 6 presets, allowing you to store a total of 18 preset channels. You can use the mode button on the steering wheel to move between the bands, and you can use the up/down arrows on the wheel to move from channel to channel within the band you are on.

    You can use the type button on the screen to move between categories (news, hits, rock, etc.) You can use the type scan button on the screen to scan all the channels within one of these types. You hit the text button to display the song title and artist. Each of these two lines allows for 16 characters to display.

    The part numbers on my invoice are:
    86180-0W030 Receiver
    PT546-47060 FitKit

    While your display seems to be nicer then my '05, I have had XM installed by Toyota, since I got the car, and I don't think yours displays much more information then mine.

    Which is weird, IMHO. I would have thought you would see more information per line...

    The reason I waited for the factory install was the scan feature. I am going to feel really silly if you tell me the non-Toyota equipment does that as well.

    We're talking about the older version that was OEM Toyota Equipment...it was limited to 10 characters, but the majority of us installed it ourselves...once someone else figured out how.

    This version, likely, will be the same. Save yourself $200-300 by taking an hour or two to do the install yourself once someone else figures out the best way to do it and publishes the instructions.

    Mine is 100% Toyota equipment. Installed by Toyota. In 2005.

    I am not sure what the big confusion is .

    Well, not really. But those would certainly do the trick for many of us. What I had in mind was something a little more step-by-step with real photos, tips and tricks, and short-cuts (ie. not removing the entire head unit).

    But still, thanks for posting those, someone will need them and use them.

    2006 Prius with Nav and Bluetooth delivered Thursday. Called local dealers in South Florida(vehicle delivered from dealer 130 miles away) Only one dealer could install the XM approximately $500 with installation. Right now I have portable unit running through FM radio. Not good quality reception. Am not able to install myself. Any suggestions?

    Does the portable unit have a line out? I suggest connecting it to the line-in for better sound quality.

    If you order the XM a local radio installation shop should be able to install it without any problems. If you can't order the parts from the dealer, the other option is to get an Vais SLX and Terk XM Direct and have a local radio shop install it. This is what I have and I'm very happy with it.

    What is interesting about Vais is they will be coming out with a USB cable so their products can be user upgraded. So as new features are added, we can upgrade (or downgrade if needed) without having to send it back.

    Is it possible for you to post some pics of the XM antenna?

    Also... I am dissapointed that you only seem to be getting 16 characters of text. I was under the impression that we would be getting the full 32 characters. Clearly this is better than the 10 charater of the Solara radio when installed in the Prius (unacceptable)... but I would like all 32.

    I've done a lot of research on this and I don't know of any OEM car stereos that supports 32 XM Characters on a line. It appears that only the "Next Generation" portable devices support 32 Characters on a line.
    In an attempt to confuse the issue I've seen a number of XM sales information that lists 32 Character support, yea, 16 per line.

    From what I read, when XM was setup, it was 16 Characters. Sirius has always been 32 (36?) characters.
    For XM to expand they have to send the additional data in a different way, so it is always delayed and it is only for the song title information.

    My guess is that Toyota designed the XM receiver a couple years ago, before the "Next Generation."

    Please someone correct me if I got some of my facts wrong.
