Green Car Reports article
I just wanted to share this article over at green car reports dot com. Not necessarily suggesting I agree or disagree with his sentiments. There are over 300 comments that are challenging to read at times, so I would suggest just taking a glance at the article itself.
As a Midwesterner in the Twin Cities, I think it's clear that the infrastructure for EV is not there, yet. I would struggle as the author suggests to find super chargers and or other places to charge in more rural areas of the state on road trips, etc.

Tesla has been cheating EPA on mpge and range numbers
If you compare the EPA mpge numbers for the Toyota Prius Prime vs. the most efficient Tesla Model 3 trims, you will see that they are about the same—Prius Prime itself having 133 mpge with similar numbers for the Model 3. However, how could this be given that the Prius Prime is a much lighter car that runs on much skinnier tires? Well, it isn't. The Tesla Model 3 has a lot lower mpge than the Prius Prime, but they somehow managed to find a way to overstate their mpge values, while virtually all other manufacturers conservatively understate them. The real-world mpge of Prius Prime vs. Tesla Model 3 is probably more like 3 to 2 rather than anywhere near being equal.
The way the range and mpge values work is that they are self-reported by the manufacturers to the EPA. It is an honor system, and we know from the Volkswagen scandal that it could be exploited. Edmunds tested the actual ranges for the EVs, and they found out that virtually all underestimate, many greatly, the real-world...Gokhan Sep 2, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 16,007 Likes: 0 Replies: 173 -

VW ID.4 with 3 years free charging
First off, I'm not tempted as my Std Rng Plus Model 3 has some unique capabilities. Regardless, it is a hoot to see VW offering three years of free charging:
Since VW owns Electrify America, having both the charging network and EV manufacturing is the way to go. IMHO, the problems with Electrify America is they had no unified population of EVs that needed reliable charging. The ID.4 may provide the standard to solve the cacophony of CCS-1 style, fast DC charging.
Frankly, any CCS-1 style, EV maker should contract with Electrify America for 3 years of free charging. This will deflate the central California, hydrogen experiment.

I don't want an EV. I want an affordable plug-in hybrid that doesn't look stupid. Rocket science?
With coal-powered EVs being shoved down everyones throat despite the lack of back-end production for raw material existing and an administration that sh*ts on the very producers of those raw materials, as well as an overall lack of charging infrastructure...
Just give me a plug-in hybrid. That's affordable.
I don't need a backup camera. I don't need a giant screen. The Japanese domestic market can somehow produce barebone vehicles like this for the current model year in Japan but Americans apparently need bells and whistles?
I don't want it to look stupid; something that took about five generations of Prius for Toyota to ALMOST figure out (the taillights are atrocious on the new Prius, Toyota needs to fix that and drop the "Prius" brand due to its connotation with overall lameness). EVs and plug in hybrid designers and their out of touch handlers just CANT HELP THEMSELVES and add weird and goofy little plastic trim pieces, strange dimensions (Wth is the Chevy Bolt?) and overall... -

2 New Toyota Hybrids To Be Revealed May 18
8am PDT/11am EDT
Link:
I assume it'll be the Sienna and Venza...
Thoughts?
It's possible both will be based on the HiHy's powertrain - 2.5 litre HSD setup. The question is whether a 3.5 litre HSD setup will continue. The reason is that there's still the RXh and will Toyota put a 4-cylinder in a Lexus product or will they continue with the 3.5 litre HSD to differentiate it from the HiHy?
If so, does that mean there'll be multiple versions of the Sienna and Venza? a 4 and 6 cylinder hybrid?Tideland Prius May 11, 2020 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 14,266 Likes: 0 Replies: 163 -
Tesla needs to Catch up
With all the news about Tesla, you would think they are the number one in EV manufacture and sales in the world. But this is not the case at all. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is still the biggest EV car maker. Then you have many Chinese brands that are selling lots in China.orenji Jun 29, 2018 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 9,298 Likes: 3 Replies: 161 -

Tesla goes even more Ludicrous
Tesla just announced the range of the model s will increase from 300 miles to a maximum of 315 miles - which just coincidentally - ends up ripping-away Toyota's alt fuel preferred hydrogen distance bragging rights . . . .
Yea - nevermind they're dumping the 0-60mph time too, down from 2.8 seconds to 2.5 seconds. This comes from tesla's new 100kWh pack rumored & written about in PC's ev sub forum not too long ago.

Gen 5 Prius now further delayed to the model year 2024
Gen 4 is now by far the longest-running Prius generation with its eight and last model year reportedly confirmed as 2023. Prius generations ran six model years in the past. Gen 5 Prius will debut as a model year 2024.
This could put the next-generation Prius Prime in the model year 2025.

Elon Musk’s big lie about Tesla is finally exposed
Lying is the standard operating procedure in Silicon Valley to have the stock price rise, but this one has sadly cost lives.
But of course all of it rests on the backs of humans behind steering wheels, what Madeline Clare Elish calls “Moral Crumple Zones.” Tesla keeps these paying liability sponges behind the wheel largely through the strength of a statistical lie: that Autopilot is safer than human drivers. Tesla has been officially making this claim in its “Quarterly Safety Reports” since 2018 (though Musk has been making it for longer still), despite the fact that its sweeping statistical comparison doesn’t take into account any of the best-known factors affecting road safety. When road safety researcher Noah Goodall adjusted the best publicly available data for factors like road type and driver age in a peer-reviewed paper, Tesla’s claim of a 43% reduction in crashes turned into an 11% increase in crashes....Gokhan Dec 17, 2023 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 7,964 Likes: 0 Replies: 148 -
Dr. Prius Packs Less Than A Year Away?
Here's pack #1 and #2 of the final pre-production test batch of Dr. Prius' aka: @jacktheripper's lithium packs for Prius.
It took 1/2 dozen years to get the right lithium chemistry and packet size to get to this point. And though the module cases were 3D printed, which took an exhausting amount of time per module, the weaknesses of 3D printing accuracy won't be an issue in the production version which will be a much more precise and quick to make injection molded plastic.
Above are the two initial test vehicles for these packs. On the left is a Prius modified for fastest lap times at the race track and it belongs to Rice Prius and on the right is my tired old 1/4 million mile Prius that's never needed any work other than basic engine and battery maintenance and is still all original parts in...PriusCamper Oct 28, 2020 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 47,286 Likes: 11 Replies: 146 -
