3 States Drop Gas Tax as Prices Soar
These States Have Suspended State Gas Tax – Forbes Advisor
Can't wait to see the size of potholes and their impact on ever larger rims with skinny tires. Plus? Since most people are driving pickups, SUVs, & other tall wind resistant vehicles - will RVs and the like really get that much of a benefit? Maybe the extra cash saved can be used for tire flat repairs? It's likely to help independent interstate truckers though.

California to boycott Toyota products
The good news: The state of California will prohibit state agencies from purchasing vehicles solely powered by an internal combustion engine (certain public safety vehicles exempted). The bad news: It won't buy Toyotas because of its support of the Administration's announcement revoking the state's authority to set emissions and fuel economy standards that are greater than the national standards.

Wisconsin Hybrid Tax- is it legal?
Wisconsin has doubled the registration fee on hybrids. The rational is that hybrids, because they are more efficient, don't pay as much fuel tax as other vehicles. I cannot argue with that premise, but the legislation ignores the fact that there are scores of other vehicles using the roads with similar or even greater efficiency.
Readers of this forum are fully aware of those vehicles, I'm sure; the diesels, CNG/NGV's , motorcycles, mopeds and even the now incredibly efficient ICE- only cars like the Versa and Cruze.
How is this tax- specifically on hybrids- not discriminatory? Is it legal for a state government to tax one citizen for using roads while not paying fees, but not another doing so similarly?
I know the new Wisconsin law has been discussed on this forum pretty thoroughly up to this point, but I'm hoping someone with a legal background can tell me whether this legislation would stand up in court.hornigio Sep 29, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 18,246 Likes: 0 Replies: 128 -

50MPG from Chevy Cruze Diesel
I'm buying this car. It's called the Whisperdiesel in Europe:
"The first nonhybrid car since the 80s to get an EPA highway rating of 50 mpg or more." The previous record-holder was 51 mpg for the 1987 Honda CRZ HF (which would fail to meet current emission standards).
"The Cruze with the six-speed manual will get higher fuel economy than the model with the nine-speed automatic..... to keep diesel chatter low, the fuel injectors shoot as many as 10 squirts of fuel per stroke."

Tesla Model 3 May Have a 300 Mile Range Option
Tesla Model 3 exclusive leaked specs: 0-60 under 4 sec fast and 300+ mile range options | Electrek
"According to a source who has seen the design that will be shown off tomorrow, it looks like a smaller hybrid of the Model X and S. It is a bit taller sedan with a unique front that looks more like a Model X than a Model S. The car is shorter and narrower than either the model X or S but is described as “sexy and sporty”...
One of the standout specs Tesla will tout is that it will be able to travel from 0-60 in under 4 seconds. We weren’t told if this is for the base model or a more premium edition with bigger battery and AWD...
Besides autonomous driving on the level of the Model S and X, Tesla will also offer the aforementioned AWD option. In addition, a battery pack that we’re estimating in the ~80kWh range will take the Model 3 to over 300 miles in range."

Shareholders Concerned About Toyota Anti-Electric Car Lobbying
Happy Earth Week!
If you look at the financial planning and long term investments Toyota has made it makes sense that they will only maximise profitability if they sustain the fossil fuel-hybrid electric transition market as long as possible.
But when it comes to basic social responsibility and a fast approaching new era of electrification Toyota is not aging well and their shareholders are starting to measure an increase in risk / cracks in Toyota's long term plan. As per this article posted today:
"Toyota is feeling some pressure to change this strategy from large funds, which are investors in the company. Jens Munch Holst, chief executive officer of Danish pension fund AkademikerPension, one of the funds backing the effort, said: “This move must not be a PR exercise but instead signal a clear end to its role in negative climate lobbying which has given it a laggard status. ...Right up until now, the company has repeatedly undermined climate action, from opposing the U.K....PriusCamper Apr 21, 2021 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 14,589 Likes: 9 Replies: 120 -
California APPROVES Aftermarket Catalytic Converters!
California was known not to legally sell aftermarket catalytic converters and anyone who’s cat was stolen had to pay for a brand new original catalytic converter from Toyota. Now the state of CA Air Resource Board has approved an aftermarket catalytic converter to be sold and installed on any Prius. This is great news to owners who don’t want to spend $2,000 at Toyota! the aftermarket cat. number has to match the state database and needs to have the Executive Number D-193-151 on it.

2016 Prius Super Bowl Commercial: "The Longest Chase" Prius4
Very entertaining and well-done commercial by Toyota's @Prius Team that aired during the Super Bowl tonight. Great to finally see a Prius ad capture the positive aspects of the car while mixing humor and entertainment.
Toyota later at the conclusion of the game posted a follow-up commercial, with the police unveiling their secret weapon to stop the Prius:

if you are looking at a new plugin or EV which is more important, range or MPGe?
Just found this article
Electric-car MPGe as important as range, Hyundai Ioniq maker suggests
it suggests MPGe should be important than range when considering cars
ignoring the fact the article is written to highlight the Ioniq (yes I drive a hybrid Ioniq), what are other member thoughts when considering cars,
ignoring brands / models do you look only at range on electric?, only efficiency (MPGe) or both (if so which is the more important)
if you choose a plug in is the range very important? do you choose a plug in with enough range on electric to cover most of your commute / day to day journeys?
personal I looked at both range and efficiency, but for me on my budget there isn't an EV / plugin with enough range to meet my requirements but as the efficiency improves there may well be in a few years
the other question raised in the article is what...Bluecar1 Jan 28, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 6,876 Likes: 1 Replies: 118 -
2023 Prius to launch plug-in hydrogen electric vehicle. Corolla to offer hydrogen combustion engine
Per Forbes:
Toyota will be offering the next generation Prius as a hybrid hydrogen electric vehicle, battery electric for short trips such as commuting with a hydrogen fuel cell (presumably?) for longer trips. It appears this will be in addition to the next generation of the gasoline-electric hybrid system.
The Corolla will be offered with the option of a more powerful turbocharged gasoline engine or, in 2023, a hydrogen internal combustion engine in an unknown configuration.JosephG Sep 2, 2021 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 21,043 Likes: 0 Replies: 117 -
The Problem(s) with Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
I have been contemplating a BEV as my next purchase. But there are pitfalls that I see, including this one:
- A BEV out of fuel (lack of sufficient charge) cannot be restored to running condition as a roadside service. The car would have to be towed. This is not a small problem. Not only is this expensive, but would clog highways with disabled cars for a longer length of time than a gas and go.

Long-Range EVs Are The Antithesis Of Efficiency And Sustainability
"...our planet can’t produce enough technology metals to accommodate a widespread transition to electric drive. Making a few hundred thousand or even a few million EVs a year isn't a major problem, but a global transition to an all-electric future is a pipe-dream, a quantum leap from the possible to the absurd, a fairy castle in the sky."
Long-Range EVs Are The Antithesis Of Efficiency And Sustainability | Seeking Alpha
This article agrees with Emissions Analytics that hybrids are a better way to go than long range EVs. Batteries and the materials to make them are limited. From the climate change and overall sustainability points of view, Toyota is right to push mass-market hybrids instead of EVs.Prius Pete Jun 20, 2019 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 8,689 Likes: 1 Replies: 115
