Funny, not one of the highlighted vehicle types is technically an "electric vehicle".

 

Along the line of Toyota not making an EV yet, apparently they did at one time. I didn't know that. But I saw one in Estes Park, CO on our recent trip. I've been meaning to ask about it and this reminded me. I wish I could have waited for the owner to show up, but who knows how that would have taken? Can anyone enlighten me on this beasite?

 

I recall there was a (rare) RAV4 pure-electric; it was in the news in 2010. I was in a dealership in 2010, getting snow tire install on our new purchase: asked a salesman about it: he'd never heard of it.

I think it was a case of someone else making the electric innards. Think that's what's pictured?

How close to zero emissions does a hybrid need to get to get off this guy's negatives list? I dare this author to detect or measure any emissions from the tailpipe of a Prius (OK a little CO2). This is part of the dis-information, that they consider infinitessimally small emission from a hybrid ICE to be some kind of fundamental kiss of death. .

 

And the other 48% are going to to replace their snowmobile once the old one starts to nickel and dime them to death...

 

Those thoughts also crossed my mind. If that's a negative for a Prius, how much more negative is it for a Jeep?!

 

depends a little on if the car is a California car (all Toyotas hybrids are CARB as far as I know). But today with the 3-way catalytic muffler, and the ultra low sulfur gasoline in the USA (the only problem with a little sulfur was that it reduced effectvieness of the platinum catalyst) But now that we have near zero gaso sulfur in most of USA, our smog emissions and CO from gaso vehciles has got to be very low.

So that's why zero emissions makes less sense now, since Prius for example, is damn near zero, Today if I see smog (reddish haze) over New York City or something, I am thinking it is from diesels and Pa./Ohio coal plants, not cars. And Calfiornia seems to have shifted their pro-ZEV argument to preventing global climate change, and not their old valid ratonale, which was reducing the Ca. smog issue. And I further assume smog in Ca, is diesels, but I am willing to learn if they think (eg gas station emissions) are a key cause.

Canada may not have reduced gaso sulfur, not sure.

 

There are plenty of emission sources besides cars.
