the uk sun newspaper has the first pictures of the new 2009 prius here's the link. .

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2003090...6560753,00.html. .

the prius is towards the end of the page (check out the green paintwork)
theres also the new honda which looks a lot like the prius mkII.

Edited the year to be 2009 since it would be the 2009 MY Prius, but would come out in late 2008. Didn't want there to be any confusion that the next gen Prius would be coming out in late 07.

Pretty cool. Should be interesting to see what the final production looks like. I really like the look of that Honda.

I do too. Very much like the Prius, but more angular or something. I can't agree with this quote from the article about the Honda: feels like driving a car from a Hollywood science fiction movie. I feel like that every day I get in my Prius to go somewhere.

Yeah, the Honda does really look like they copied the shape and lines of a Prius and did a little tweaking -- to beautiful effect, mind you. But as it's a hydrogen fuel cell prototype, I can't think of it being the least worry to Toyota at this point.

Very interesting - I've got some feelers out to verify the picture and to see if there is anymore information available out there for the 09 Prius.

Hmm... I like the '05-'07 shape better than the '08 one.

The problem is that this's not a real picture. I truly believe that this is a computer-generated image.

Looks cool, though. I'd trade in for one.

Color me skeptical, also. I don't buy this as being the new Prius.

That Honda is extremely sweet looking, though

Yuck. I don't like this at all. Why have such a big sharp-edged phony-looking crease down the side of the car? Totally unfunctional. It looks like the designers bent to the will of the marketing department instead of the engineering dept., just like what happens all the time with American cars and their phony "cladding" on their SUVs. It also looks more agressive, which is not the personality of an environmentally green car at all. Please Toyota, don't go trying to "bulk up" our nice friendly Prius!

It'll actually be the 2009 model coming out in late 2008. Just wanted to make sure that there wasn't any confusion that in fact we have one more year of the current Gen Prius.

Hmm, they don't even say where they got the picture from.. Fox Syndication?

The rear looks like the concept version of the current Civic.

Assuming that's the new Prius - it's probably a reasonably good guess at what the production car will look like - I like the way it reinterprets the second-gen car without making the previous model look ancient. Toyota did a good job with that the first time around, too. I love the looks of my '07, but, every time I see a first-gen model I think, "Dang that's a cool car!"

About that green. As the owner of a green [silver pine mica] Prius I have to say, um, no. That's too much green for me. It looks like the Envy Green on a Special Release XB. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're old! Me, too. ;)

That photo of the next generation Prius doesn't look all too different. It's a computer rendering so I'm hoping that it'll look better that the rendering. I'm hoping it'll look as good - if not better - then that Honda FCX concept vehicle!

Agreed! To me the Prius looks very similar except that some ricer kid stuck a bigger "Fast and Furious" air dam on the front end.

The Honda concept, on the otherhand, is very nice looking!
