Rudy has his first appointment for service work. He's at nearly 80K miles, and has never needed anything before.

    I'm nervous.

    On the schedule:
    Coolant pump recall work
    Inverter fluid change
    PCV valve
    Alignment
    12V battery change

When there, I'll ask them to do the "oil change" checks listed in the Maintenance booklet - inspection points

Am I forgetting something crucial? Is there anything I should be aware of?
Any ballpark guesses as to the cost of "Rudy's day at the spa"? :p

the pump and fluid are warranty, yes? so, battery $250. tires $20. inspection points $75.? = $345. my daughters 04 has a little over 80,000. nothing but the maint. manual stuff yet. and recalls. you sound nervous about taking your baby in, all the best!

Did you mean inverter fluid or transaxle fluid. Probably should do transaxle fluid if you haven't already.

There should be no charge for the inverter coolant because draining and replacing the coolant is supposed to be part of the inverter coolant pump recall work.

I agree that the transaxle ATF fluid should also be drained and replaced (at your cost) if that had not been previously done.

If you add that item to your list then my guess is $600 for all of the items in your OP plus transaxle ATF.

I'm having the work done at Toyota of Olympia.

I called and added transaxle drain/refill to my schedule. "That isn't due until 90K." "Yes, I know." "Oh, okay then. I'll add it in." Gotta say, I appreciate when they offer info, but don't argue. :)

Shoot! We should have done the battery when you were down here. I'd have done it for a mocha. :)

errr .... you are going to let them tell you the price *after* the work is done ? If that is the case just hand over a signed blank check and hope for the best.

Be prepared for a suggestion to change the engine water pump and serpentine belt. If they do, insist on a visual inspection before approving the work. If the engine water pump is bad, you will see a lot of pink crusty gunk on it. If the serpentine belt is bad, it will be riddled with cracks.

I'm expecting to be handed a printout estimate before work starts, actually.

Just thought it would be fun to have the challenge of guessing going on here :)

I'm not trying to bash you Rae, but if you have already invested the time to drive down to the garage and hand over your car, your willingness to say "too much" is impaired. Or at least mine would be.

Any reason you or a friend are not taking on some of the simple DIY work at a fraction of the cost ? One other comment, access to the PCV valve is about the same as needed for spark plug replacement. I'd try to do both at the same time, and would not feel obliged to do either at 80k. Not that 80k is a bad time, but another year or two is OK too.

    Good luck :)

Well, we aren't having them do the oil change. And, they can't touch my filters... I've changed them often enough!

I don't feel like fumbling around with the PCV valve. And, I'm going off Galaxy's list (sorta) for what should be taken care of. It's a tiny little thing in a day of big things.
