Just a while ago the local paper put up a new headline. Gov. Crist is recommending the areas to cut in to the Leg. tomorrow. I personally think we can solve the whole $$$ problem by allowing Powerball and Casinos. People love to gamble & buy high $$ tickets.

I'm confused. Your presentation suggests this is bad news, but isn't this precisely what conservatives have worked so hard to bring about: smaller gov't? You know, what Grover Norquist said: "My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

This should be wonderful news. Shouldn't it?

Yes, But in this case the State passed a tax reduction package to relieve the people of the heavy home tax burden. At the same time they must force cuts in Gov. & municipal services. The cites & counties are crying poverty as they have become used to a windfall from a super hot real estate mkt. that is going bust now. They collected huge amts. of $$ and spent like kings. I agree with you that all Govt. needs to learn fiscal responsibility with the People's tax dollars.

LOL! The headline brought me into this thread because I thought hycamguy was ranting about "Flag" "Government" and "Christ"!! :D I guess that will teach me to read more carefully.

Seriously though, if Christ were the governor of Florida, it would be a pretty different story than this "Crist" guy.

TAX CUT//////// I will get a reduction of approx. $194.00. With a big cut like that, now I can pay my $8000.00 on a modest home!!

Where did you get your figures???

The way our county property appraser explained it was a home worth 200k would be taxed as if it was a 50k home. Thats quite a savings! ;)

This is a microcosm of what's to come nationally. The Charge and Spend Party evaporates governmental income then gets voted out of office and they are absent when the hard choices have to be made, so they get to blame it on the party in power instead of who caused the problem. See Also CA budget problems after Reagan left as governor. This 'back door' politics must end.

And I thought Minnesota was doomed with our 'no new taxes' governor who has yet to call a special session to deal with the bridge collapse/repair appropriations and flood disaster moneys to help the folks in southeast MN. The longer he waits, the easier he can stonewall on token increases on the state gas tax which has been 20 cents since the 80s. Safe streets and good schools don't come cheap. It seems like the movement in business and conservative governments is that if 90% of the work can be done with 85% of the money, then you net an additional 5% in profit or government efficiency. It saves money, but you are going to need to deal with the long term consequences of having worst schools, degrading infrastructure, and poverty. The highest income states and nations are those with well funded government services.
