My buddy bought a 2004 and his Fob will lock and unlock the door, but to start his prius he must insert his Fob. I called him to suggest that the button near the steering shaft (inside the car) might have been pushed by mistake. He does not have two buttons there like I have in my 2007.

Is that normal for a 2004?
Is there a way around it other than buying a newer prius?

If the car is equipped with SKS he will have one button. He will not have the reset button for the tire pressure monitor as it was not available until 06. If he has no button, his car does not have the SKS and he will have to use the fob slot to start the car.

That is normal for a non-SKS 2004. Not sure what you mean about buttons. There is a start button and an SKS switch located below the stearing shaft on modes so equipped. My non-SKS has 3 blank spaces for the switches.

You hit the nail on the head. He also has 3 blanks there. I'll let him know the answer.
    Thanks
