Forcing the ICE to Run

    My apologies in advance if I've missed the obvious here. I've run a couple searches and come up dry. I recall seeing this before, but....

    Anyway, how do you force the ICE to stay on? For example, I just changed my oil, and I like to have the engine idle for a couple minutes with me watching to make sure nothing's leaking. I can't recall the procedure for making it stay on for such purposes. TIA.

    Easy way is to turn on the A/C and set it to max cold or to max heat.

    Yeah that was apparently how the dealership did it for my car this morning. When I got the car back, the AC was off Auto Mode and set to 75 degrees.

    Never tried it, but I've heard that shifting to "B" mode will do it, too.

    A while back, there was a rumor that if you hold your foot on the brake and pump the gas three times it will trigger a high rev state that will fully charge the battery. Once the battery it fully charged, the engine will rev down.

    I've never tried it so I don't know if it works.
    Try it and let us know.

    - keep Parking brake on
    - press and keep brake pedal on by left foot
    - shift to D
    - press accelerator pedal to start ICE by right foot
    - shift to N during ICE running

    You're correct.
    My procedure is just to force ICE running, not for battery charging.

    If you don't mind sitting in the car while it's running, just put it in Park and press the gas pedal down part way. The ICE should start and continue to run as long as you keep the pedal depressed. If you want the ICE to run faster, press the pedal down further and it will switch to a higher speed.

    I have noticed that it does that, but in this particular case, I want the ICE running while I'm looking at the underside of the engine room, ensuring no leaks right after I changed the oil. I suppose one could prop the gas pedal, but that would be so . . . inelegant. Thanks for the reply, though.
