Picking up a pristine 2002 first gen Prius tonight.Typical newbie questions:
Best oil wt for 90,000 engine.
Best all season tires to buy

I sold my 1991 MR2 to specifically get a Gen 1 Prius and looks like I hit a home run first time out.

90,000 miles, silver strata metallic,CD straight and clean from a couple in their 60's.

Above questions ate for curiosity, and will use "search" option for other questions that I may have.

Congrats on getting what you wanted, a Prius!

I would check what is recommended oil for the year.
There is a few (actually lot more than I even could read) tire threads here.
check up on the Michelin Energy Savers, as I read (proven) they increase mpg. (if they make for that year)

Here she is. Just got the CVT oil changed at Broadway Toyota and everything checked out OK.

    Two questions:

I would like to disable the daytime running lights. I have done this on a Corolla and Pontiac Vibe.
I just hate when at a stoplight with the Prius, the car completely shuts off to save energy, but those damn lights just blaze drawing power from the 12v battery.
So... has anyone done this to the GEN I Prius? And what wire do I snip to achieve this?

Second question: CD/Storage door keeps popping open. How do I keep this from happening? It's very annoying.

Ohh boy, she is purty and still has the shine!

drl, you want them off completely and never to come on again?
    Could you remove the bulb?
Sorry, I only just got into Prius's and not sure how 2002 is set up.
But if separate from the low beam....just remove the bulbs.
That way no wires are snipped.

Now, you could also splice into the wire and put in a switch.

For the door...would velcro help at all?

Thanks for the complement. Yea, she's really clean.

Put a small piece of Velcro near the latch, did the trick.

As far as the DRL'S, I opened up the drivers kick panel and there is a white plug with bundle wires. On an online search I was given bad advice on what wire to snip.... I cut a Black/Yellow wire as advised, but the DRL's stayed on. (anyone know what that black/yellow wire is for?) Hasn't affected anything I know of.

In that bundle, if anyone on this forum can tell me what wire to cut, I would be very appreciative.

OK Just got offline with a Prius tech that was suprised this did not work:

Grounded the Yellow/Black wire to Ground lug as shown.

Prius tech said to remove Y/B wire from harness and ground to car, and this should do the trick.

However after doing this no change. DRL's still work.

Anybody on this forum advise me on what I'm missing to disable the DRL's.

    I would be most appreciative.
