Does anyone know the purpose for the 2 in. circular plug on the driver side of the 2005,s front bumper. Is this a component access port or for some optional accessory.

Thank you, I tried a search with negative results. I missed it in the manual as well.

It's a knock-out used if you ever have to tow the vehicle. The tow extension that you screw in is stored with the jack parts in the hatchback.

See page 255 of your owner's manual.

Once you know, you can have fun with non-prius owners about it, especially when they ask if you need to plug it in.

If you ever have to use the Emergency Tow Eye, make sure you use the correct tool to remove the plastic trim plug. I haven't seen anything in the car that is appropriate. If you just use a slot screwdriver blade, you'll gouge the plastic.

I looked around and found a cheap woodworking tool that fits perfectly. It has a thin narrow blade that can be used to provide prying without damaging the plastic.

Corner of a credit card, or strong fingernails are effective.
