'07 Prius with 167k in NY. Dealership told me today after my oil change that I need to replace the front pads and rotors as they are at 2mm. Below are the various quotes I received around town, should I suck it up and pay the extra $100 to have the dealership complete the work or go with the lowest quote? Not sure if the tire/brake chain retailers use sub-par quality hardware or if there is any tricky Prius specific know-how involved?

    Toyota Dealership #1: $315
    Toyota Dealership #2: $409
Monroe Muffler: $300 (but he claimed he would beat any price)
    Mavis Tire/Brakes: $210
    Mr. Tire: $369

    Thanks,
    Greg

i would go with the dealership, unless you have complete confidence that the mech understands prius hybrid brakes, and is using all oem parts.

Maybe go with the dealership, but skip the rotor replacement. Try to get more info from them regarding rotor condition, the thickness, and the parallelism measurements. I'd suspect the suggestion to replace rotors is just knee-jerk, ie: changing the pads, so change the rotors.

Replacement pads and shims are around $100 through the parts department, fwiw.

could be, but 167k is nothing to sneeze at.

CarX usually has brakes for $99. Prius brakes and rotors, regardless of brand, are likely to last another 10 years, so I decided to save the money (and get a bunch of other stuff done for 1/4 the price of the dealership). Aren't your rotors badly rusted, too? The Toyota rotors are crazy expensive.
